This Weeks Welcome
Tena koutou katoa,
This is our first newsletter in Term 2, so I’d like to say a warm welcome back and I hope your family enjoyed some great times together during the holidays.
I had a fantastic trip to South Korea, as one of a group of NZ educators. We spent time in Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan, visiting schools and Provincial Offices of Education. It was really interesting to learn more about the Korean education system and the reforms that they are introducing in order to encourage creativity and wellbeing. It wasn’t all work though and we did plenty of sightseeing. Highlights included the street food markets in Busan, the N Seoul Tower, Gyeongbok Palace, Anapji Pond, the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) and Nanta Show in Seoul.
There’s lots coming up at UHPS so please watch out for the adverts and posters. This Friday is Wonder Women Day and the children are looking forward to sharing our morning with mums, aunties, grandmas etc. The following Friday is Pink Shirt Day, in support of the anti-bullying message. A gold coin donation will go to the Mental Health Foundation.
We certainly have a staff who are adventurers and explorers! We are very sad to say that we will be farewelling Michael Barry at the end of Week 5 this term. Michael and Miranda are off to Canada for a new adventure and we wish them all the very best. Michael came to us as a Beginning Teacher and quickly became a valued member of the team, particularly in the areas of ICT and sport.
