This Week’s Welcome

Tena koutou katoa,

I expect we’re all watching with interest as the earthworks get underway at the top of Kyle Road. Last year I rang Cato Bolam and apparently either 40 or 42 dwellings are going on the site. There are another 20 sections just over the motorway off Albany Highway and 12 apartments being built on the corner of Schnapper Rock Road and Albany Highway. This means one thing, of course, our school will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. We are still blessed however with our wonderful bush backdrop and so many visitors tell us what a sense of calm this gives.

This term our Values focus is Whanaungatanga - supporting each other as a family. In Monday’s assembly, I used the example that none of the colours in a rainbow can exist without those either side of it. Likewise, we need those around us to make us who we are.

I’d like to introduce three new members of staff - Ryan McWilliams, Maryke Strydom and Katie Meese. Ryan is busy learning about UHPS and getting up to speed as our Sports Coordinator (after school teams). Maryke is supporting children in class as an LSA (Learning Support Assistant). Katie joins us on Monday to work in the office alongside Sandra and Stephanie.

Community meetings

Chinese parents community meeting Tuesday 3rd March at 2 pm. Korean parents community meeting Tuesday 10th March at 2 pm (please note the change of date). Both meetings will be in our ESOL Room (22).

Road Safety

We have far too many incidents of children with parents crossing the road unsafely. Do not cross the road near the junction with our bottom school carpark. Cars come from four directions and it can be very dangerous. If a member of staff asks you to cross in a safer place or walk around - follow their directions. They want to keep you and your children safe!

Family Picnic

We will be having our annual Family Picnic on Tuesday 10th March at 5 pm-7 pm. Bring along your dinner, picnic blanket and maybe your bikes as well, to enjoy a relaxed evening getting to know other families.
