Tēnā koutou katoa,
This is our last newsletter for 2020 and the most important message I want to send, is a massive ‘Thank You.’ I just looked back at the first newsletter for this year and we really had no idea what was about to hit us. Throughout this year, whether we’ve been onsite or offsite, we’ve known that you have been supporting us and supporting your children in their learning, and we really appreciate it. Let’s all take a well-deserved break and look forward to 2021 with optimism and excitement.

Safety First
This morning we received a very worrying phone call from a parent. The parent was driving along Miromiro Street before the start of school, when a small child ran across the road in front of him. The child had come from a large SUV and couldn’t be seen before suddenly appearing in front of his car. Fortunately the driver was able to brake fast enough to protect the child. Over the holidays, please could you take some time to teach/practice with your children, how to cross roads safely.

Christmas Picnic
What a wonderful time we had at the Christmas Picnic last night. It was so cool to be able to catch up with each other and enjoy a perfect, warm evening. So many times in the past, we’ve had to cancel because of bad weather so it was extra special, in this crazy COVID year, that we were able to spend time relaxing together.

After completing a stocktake of all the books in our school library and readers in our resource room, we unfortunately have a lot of books missing. This is a huge expense for Upper Harbour Primary School to cover. Could you please have a thorough look at home under beds and in cupboards for any school library books or school readers and return them with your child or to the school office by the end of term. Thank you for your assistance.

Athletics
It was great to see you come out and support our students at the Year 3 - 6 event at Wainoni Park, the Year 0 - 2 Athletics Event at school and at the Northern Bays Athletics Event at Kristin School. Without your support, events like this cannot take place, so a huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped us at these events.
Congratulations to all of the students who represented Upper Harbour Primary School at the Northern Bays Athletics Event competing against 10 other schools. All competitors demonstrated Manaakitanga and Hiranga throughout the event which made for an outstanding day with some great results.

We would like to thank Natasha & Miljana Peterson, Mrs Thorburn, Logan & Connor Dawson, The Thynne family and the Minn family who have kindly donated new books to our school library. It is very important for our young readers to have access to a selection of books to help them learn through reading. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We accept donations of both new and pre-loved books. Just drop them off to the office, making sure to include your name.

We would like to give a huge thank you to all the community for supporting our school Book Fair which raised a wonderful reward amount of $2,111.00 for our school to spend on new books for our library. Fantastic!
This Book Fair would not have been possible without the help of our fabulous FOS team and in particular Hannah Tegg, Benjamin Caskey, Rachel Turner, Ala’a Ali and Angela Webb. Thank you so much.
