Networked Neighborhoods for Eco-Conservation Online (NECO)

Become a Networked Neighbor: Networked Neighborhoods for Eco-Conservation Online offers an interactive way for users to share, view, and map green infrastructure and low impact development practices in their neighborhood, watershed and across the Great Lakes. NECO also helps users estimate the amount of stormwater and nonpoint source pollutants being managed by installed practices.

Get mapping today by visiting www.networkedneighbors.org.

Participate

You can become a beta tester or simply join the network as a user. Beta testers benefit from being able to provide input into features they would like to see, as well as getting early access to tools and websites being shared on the network.

If you join as a user you will be included in the updates of the Network as it is being developed and will be able to access the Network, share information, and use the tools once it has been completed. To specify how you would like to be involved click the "Update Subscription Preferences" here or at the bottom of this newsletter and select your choice.

Please let other groups know about the GLCCN and direct them to the project website to sign-up. Our website can be accessed at: http://www.iwr.msu.edu/glccn/. Stay tuned as we launch the network in the spring of 2014.

Great Lakes Clean Communities Network (GLCCN)

Get the Word out about the GLCCN and win a framed autographed Great Lakes Photo!
Our goal is for every organization in the Great Lakes to connect and share on the GLCCN. You can help us reach this goal and be entered to win a framed autographed Great Lakes photograph by inviting your colleagues to sign-up for the Network here. One current and one new member will win a framed autographed Great Lakes photograph by Michigan photographer Mary Hilldore. The photo featured at the top of this page is just one of Mary's photos, and the winners can choose from hundreds of different scenic Great Lakes shots.

To be entered as an existing member, you must refer at least one person to the GLCCN and have them sign-up and list your name in their entry form. One new member and the person who referred them will be selected to win and receive a free, framed Great Lakes photo of their choosing. If you are not signed-up for the Network, sign-up today and indicate that you would like to be entered into the drawing. The contest ends Friday, March 14th. The winner will be selected at random and notified via email in late March.

In Case You Missed It
Our Facebook page is a great place to get a preview of news and events happening around the Great Lakes. In case you missed it, here are a few of our favorite recent stories.  Click here to connect with the GLCCN on Facebook. We’re interested in sharing your organization’s green efforts on our Facebook page too. Send us a message or make a post on our wall about your organization’s environmental activities.

Tell Us What You Want to See in the GLCCN
We are on target for creating and testing a beta version of the GLCCN website and we need your input to help identify critical concerns in your area. This is a great opportunity for your organization to provide feedback that will directly influence the development and design of the online Network. To participate in the survey, please click here. Please respond by February 28, 2014. You will be redirected to the survey page. We value your input and look forward to learning how we can tailor the Network portal to best meet the needs of your organization in addressing environmental problems.

We've Mapped Participation in the GLCCN
The Great Lakes Clean Communities Network is continuing to grow. Take a look at this participation heat map to see where GLCCN participants are located (areas shaded in yellow have more participants than areas shaded in orange). Help us spread participation across the entire Great Lakes by inviting your networks to join! Be sure to Update Your Subscription Preferences and add your zip code so we can continue to map the growth of the GLCCN.

Invitation to Participate in University of Michigan Research
The Great Lakes Clean Communities Network is working with the University of Michigan’s School of Information to understand how environmental nonprofit organizations use web technology and social media. Through an interview process, this study will bring new insights and strategies for social media use and environmental tools to GLCCN members. We need volunteers to participate in this research. If you are willing to help us, please contact Youyang Hou at youyangh@umich.edu. Interviews will last about 45 minutes. A short, follow-up demographic survey about your organization will be sent after the interview. Your participation is valuable and greatly appreciated.
