Over the past couple of months, we have met with a group of Burmese students to pray for the unrest in their country. To do this we have been looking with them at Psalms of Lament.

      Psalm 13:1-2
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?

These words speak to our students during this time. We learn from the Psalms we have permission to complain, to complain to the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving God of the universe. After all, he already knows our sorrows and our emotions. It is hard to describe how moving it is to witness the prayers of our students for their families. They pray in their heart languages, we don’t understand the words but we understand the sorrow in their hearts. How long, Lord?

In our last Prayer Letter we told you about the school co-op our organization started in January. Many of the students have accelerated more than one grade level in 5 months, many are feeling comfortable in school for the first time, and all have been exposed to the gospel message. It has been going so well, we are continuing it through the summer and next school year.

The past 14 months have been difficult for all of us. We may not be living in a new culture without knowing the language and customs, and we may not have family members facing a government that is killing its own people. But, we have all lived with disruption in our lives because of the pandemic that has gone on longer than any of us imagined, and our country is in a place of division unlike any we thought we would see in our lifetimes. Oh God, heal our people, heal our land. We too have sorrow in our hearts. How long, Lord?

So, how does this affect us since we work in adult programming?

Because our building was not having as much use during the pandemic, we were able to complete the construction of the second floor! Assuming we can complete our new parking lot in time, we will be able to conduct both school and Adult ESL classes at the same time starting in September. YEAH! The plan is to do that for one year and then expand the Adult ESL classes the following year. Also, we are making plans to have late afternoon gatherings of adults expressly for English conversation for three weeks in July. We are so excited to get back face to face with our people.

We must also say what a blessing it has been to work with smaller groups of folks online this past year. A trust has evolved so that conversation has gone much deeper than it would in a large classroom. God works all things for our good, to Him be the glory.

Ending of Psalm 13
    But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

Please PRAY!

  • That God would bring peace to Burma and that many would come to faith in Him.
  • That God would bring unity to our country.
  • That God would allow us to take part with the church at large in serving those around us with humility and love.
  • That God would grant us the desire of our hearts to re-open the adult in-person programs this summer and next fall.
  • Praise HIM for the success of the FTNRO Children’s school co-op and pray for continued success.
  • Praise HIM for closer relationships with those we have been serving this year.

We missed sending an Easter Prayer Letter this year. The first photo is of the Easter service at the church plant we are a part of.
