Over the past couple of months, we have met with a group of Burmese students to pray for the unrest in their country. To do this we have been looking with them at Psalms of Lament.
Psalm 13:1-2
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
These words speak to our students during this time. We learn from the Psalms we have permission to complain, to complain to the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving God of the universe. After all, he already knows our sorrows and our emotions. It is hard to describe how moving it is to witness the prayers of our students for their families. They pray in their heart languages, we don’t understand the words but we understand the sorrow in their hearts. How long, Lord?
