DreamWorker, working for the unemployed
Nelson Mandela Quote
Unlike 2011 (which almost saw DreamWorker closing its doors for lack of funding), 2012 has started with a flourish! This is thanks to the Douglas Murray Trust, who have stepped in to assist, filling us with renewed hope and vitality in our quest to alleviate unemployment in the Cape Metropole. We are truly grateful for our new partnership.

At DreamWorker, we love keeping track of our many statistics, but our favourite number is always ONE. Helping ONE individual at a time, even if it is to obtain ONE day of work a week to begin. And before we know it, ONE plus ONE, plus ONE looks like this....

Number of people who obtained work through our efforts in ONE year (2011) Over 1 500
Number of workdays achieved (on average) in just ONE month 9 000
Wages into the hands of the unemployed during just ONE year (2011) Over R14 million

And over the years, ONE month become 36 months and the figures overall look like this......

Number of people with whom we have engaged (helped, supported, advised, registered) since inception – end 2008 Over 6 000
Number of workdays since inception – end 2008 Over 214 000

On Friday 24 February, DreamWorker took their first 22 candidates through a Worker Readiness programme. Everyone in the office pulled together to make the morning happen, but it was Office manager, Tania Sisam who led them through the course.
The energy was tangible in the room as participants explored and shared their own gifts and talents with one another, learning to open up and express their uniqueness to the world.

Packit Packaging has become a loyal and entrenched partner to DreamWorker. It all began when Thabiso Ntobela was employed as a technician, back in 2010. Packit was so happy with his progress that when they needed drivers, a new receptionist, a stock room controller and a cleaner, they called DreamWorker again and again. Today a delighted Tera, Anele, Chantal, Fa-eez and Wiesa are all part of the Packit family!

RachmatRachmat Ismail had been unemployed for just on 2 years, when she arrived at DreamWorker in 2010.  Rachmat worked for many years doing administration, invoicing, data capture and more. So it came as quite a shock to find herself retrenched after 10 years’ loyal service!
Being positive and not given to feeling sorry for herself, Rachmat made ends meet by making and selling doughnuts in her community. But it was a stressful road to travel.

DreamTeam with certificatesAt DreamWorker we know that we cannot keep on giving and giving without filling up. We have regular workshops, exploring ourselves, expanding and growing in order to help those seeking work through us to do the same.
In January we treated the team to a one day workshop with Nigel Willmot, entitled “Money Matters.” We explored our own dysfunctional patterns around the sensitive subject of money and were left with a wonderful set of guidelines to follow.
