The Floatfest team are busy working away behind the scenes to make the 2018 Kookaburra Homes Floatfest even greater than 2017 - should be easy since we had such terrible luck with the weather! Never fear, we've been busy doing our routine weather dances, praying to the weather gods and anyone who will listen - fingers crossed!
Make sure you save the date for the 2018 event - April 7th and 8th - Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge!
Did you see our drone footage of the 2017 event thanks to Shane Strudwick Images?
It is with great pride we announce that we achieved some great outcomes at #Floatfest17! The Floatfest team was excited to have beaten our target of having over 200 registrations for this year’s event. However, the weather gods were most unhappy with us this year by providing us with near gale force winds, periodic sheets of rain and rare but small bursts of sunlight.

Luckily the team had floated the event downstream to Murray Bridge for 2017 which luckily is situated perfectly for an on water event; put simply the river runs the right way providing shelter even in the strongest winds as we have proven this year. The same could not be said if the event was still held in its hometown of Mannum where the river would have been directly hit by the winds experienced over the weekend. The weather forecast alone turned off a large number of our participants who chose not to be on the water and headed back home.

Despite the wild weather we managed to still hold a count with our very dedicated and brave participants in a brief break between weather fronts. The Floatfest team were most proud to be able to include a delegation of around thirty children and their families from Can:Do 4Kids, our charity partner, who chose to stay and take part in the action. Can:Do 4Kids offer vital therapy and support to children and young people who are blind, vision impaired, deaf or hearing impaired.

Whilst our 2017 official count for number of kayaks/canoes rafted up on the water is only 35 with 50 participants, we remain proud of this achievement due to the challenges brought on by the weather.
We also began our own record for number of kayaks/canoes lined up along the bank of the Murray River where we achieved a total number of 40.

We look forward to the 2018 event which will be held on April 7th & 8th 2018 at Sturt Reserve and invite everyone to join us in our good weather dances prior to the event.

Make the Murray River, Lakes & Coorong your new quick winter weekend getaway destination

It’s close to home, but far enough away to be unique, comfortable and affordable. Offering both active and relaxing activity options in an outstandingly beautiful part of the world, it’s a superb ‘short family getaway’... Read More
