Greetings!

It looks like we are going to experience early spring weather all across Canada so now is a good time to start thinking about College “Spring Cleaning”.   We hope that all those registrants, who are getting ready and looking forward to March break, have a restful and safe time with friends and family.  Here are a few updates that may need some attention prior to or shortly after returning from March break.

1) Application for CCVE Examination: Grandfathering Cohort 2 and New Application for CCVE Examination
The College is now accepting applications for CCVE Cohort 2 Grandfathering phase.  This phase encompasses a 12 month period where registrants of the College or members of CAVEWAS can apply to be accepted to sit the competency examination for the award of the CCVE credential.    The pre-requisites for eligibility for each phase – Cohort 1  Grandfathering Phase (no examination required but must have CVE or ABVE credentials -  expires 30 July 2016) and Cohort 2 Grandfathering Phase (examination required but some education and experience pre-requisites allowances for CVRP registrants and CAVEWAS members – expires March 15 2017) are clearly out lined in the policies posted on the website found at the following link:  http://www.cvrp.ca/ccve/.
For those people who are interested in achieving the CCVE credential but who are not members of CAVEWAS or the College, application to join the College is available under the certification tab.

2) CAVEWAS sponsored CCVE Examination Training Day – Saturday 7 May 2016 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
CAVEWAS is sponsoring a CCVE Examination Training Day on May 8th at the Centre for Health and Safety Innovation, Corporation Event Centre, 5110 Creekbank Road, Mississauga, Ontario.  For more information, please contact Jennifer Chladny, President of CAVEWAS at:  jchladny@metricsvocational.ca

3) CCVE Examination Sitting – Sunday 8 May 2015 - 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
The first sitting of the CCVE examination will then be held in the same location as the CAVEWAS Training Day on May 8th from 9:00am – 4:00 pm.  Completed applications and documentation must be received by the College no later than April 20th to allow for the peer-review process (part of the eligibility evaluation) to sit the CCVE exam.  Application forms to sit the CCVE examination can be found at this link: http://www.cvrp.ca/ccve-application-for-examination/

4) CVRP June 2016 Examination Sittings:
Toronto: York@Seneca June 11, 2016 9:00 – 4:00 pm
Vancouver: SFU Burnaby Campus late June 2016 - Room and Date TBA

5) Two new sections in the NEWS Box on the website: Community Job Postings and Community RFP Postings
We are pleased to announce that we have added 2 new sections to the red NEWS box on the home page of the website.  Community Job Postings allows for registrant stakeholders and related outside groups to list job postings suitable for College Registrants.  Please note that there are 2 posting at present: one for an Eligibility Adjudicator for the WSIB in Ontario and a full time Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional with vpi Working Solutions.  For more information, please view the postings at his link:  http://www.cvrp.ca/news/job-postings/
Community RFP Postings provides an opportunity for CVRP registrants and related community stakeholders to request posting of RFPs that may be of interest to CVRP registrants.  For more information contact the registrar at jray@cvrp.ca or the Communication Committee through info@cvrp.ca.

6) Recent Report on Disability and Work Dynamic in Canada
In the Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP)’s recent report, titled “Leaving Some Behind: What Happens When Workers Get Sick”, the IRPP highlights the need for a fundamental renewal of Canada’s income, disability and employment support system.  The report calls on the federal government to undertake and champion new long-term directions and make immediate reforms to the public system.   In particular, the challenges faced by people with episodic disabilities were identified.

Involving 33 participants from academia, think tanks, government, employers, and private insurance along with 7 health NGO’s, the report addresses the burden and household impact of serious illness in Canada.  “This report is the first major effort to quantify the issue of employable, ill Canadians being excluded from the labour market by public policy,” says Neil Pierce, National Vice President, Government Relations, MS Society of Canada.

Suggested reforms include improving the coordination of basic definitions and program parameters across the disability support system and enhancing the breadth and quality of disability insurance coverage within the labour market. For example, the federal government can extend the duration of EI benefits and create a flexible work-sharing program, so that a person can reduce work hours while receiving EI income. Additionally, it can create a system for the expert dissemination of information and hands-on support to employers on roles, best practices and resources when an employee is diagnosed or have to care for someone with an illness and may require time away or accommodations so they can continue to work.

7) Now accepting postings for the Seminars and Conferences section of the NEWS Box
As a service to our registrants, submissions for pre-approval of seminars, conferences, webinars, training days, etc., can be processed by the College and posted on the website in the NEWS box for a minor fee.  Please contact the Communications Committee through info@cvrp.ca for more information.

8) Registration renewals and 5 year renewal of Vulnerable Sector Police Checks (VSPC)
Please remember to check your CVRP online profile for your annual receipts, renewal letters and current CEU reports. For those who registered with the College early in 2010 and 2011, please check the date of your submitted Vulnerable Sector Police Checks (VSPC).  VSPC’s must be renewed every 5 years.  According to CVRP renewal policy, if this is the year that your VSPC is due for renewal, the new search must be received by CVRP by the last day of the month prior to your annual renewal date.

The College is always open to feedback.  With the implementation of stricter renewal and CEU submission rules, it was a challenge to stay on top of communication.  Most registrants responded well and on time.  We hope that those who missed the deadlines have graciously realigned their own personal date reminders, to avoid any future penalties.

Janice, Amber, Mary and Sue wish you all a Happy and Safe March Break!
