A Female Team Spotlight At arabot, we continue to advance gender equality in the digital world and advocate a tolerant mindset that allows for all forms of diversity in the workplace. To mark International Women’s Day 2020 and to celebrate Women’s History Month, we asked some of our inspiring female employees to share their thoughts on what it means to them to be a woman in the tech industry and talk about their career experiences, so that other women in the workforce can learn, adapt and find the path that suits them best. Tech companies are building the future, and women should be a part of this transformation. One way to encourage more women to pursue data science and tech careers is to highlight women who are already working in the field. When you see someone else, who looks like you, successfully working in the field, your dreams start to feel more attainable. I’m a data science manager, but I’m also a mother, and I think many young women are told they’ll have to choose to be only one of those. In every company I’ve worked at, I’ve reached out to my network to make sure we reach female candidates with our job posts, and I point out unconscious bias and “well-intentioned” discriminatory practices if I see them. And every time, I’ve been able to make a small difference that led to a more diverse workforce. Many companies are faced with meeting very aggressive hiring goals, sourcing candidates from a limited talent pool, particularly small and startup organizations that struggle to match benefits and perks that large, well-funded organizations can offer. When I decided to join arabot, I faced many challenges in my way as an HR professional working for a startup and tech company. There were a number of hurdles along the way which were overcome by hard work and determination. The startup culture is extremely open and I found it easy to implement my ideas and make my own mark.
