A Message From The President

February 16, 2017                       Volume 5 No. 101

.ng Domains, getting cheaper daily

By the 31st of January 2017, NiRA had recorded over 15,000 second level .ng domain name registrations. This milestone is significant because earlier, NIRA had set up a Price Charter with its accredited registrars that seek to progressively reduce the price of .ng domain names, based on the total number of domains in the .ng registry.
Reaching the count of 15,000 domains names at the second level, has given NiRA the opportunity to move the .ng domain pricing to the next lower level, according to the price charter. Since the business is competitive, registrars continue to package different products and deals to excite their customers. With the high cost of purchasing foreign exchange, there is no better time to register a .ng domain name, but now.
I congratulate NiRA Accredited Registrars, Registrants and stakeholders for this growth and milestone. Of course based on the price charter, with more growth in .ng domain name registration at the 2nd level, the Registry would implement further price reductions once we reach the set milestone. The next milestone will be 20,000 second level domains.
Better days are coming, Let us all keep flying the .ng flag.
Your President,
Rev’d Sunday Folayan

Why should you get a professional branded email address? Ask yourself, what does your email address say about you and your business/organisation? A professional branded .ng email address like or can show the world your organisation/company is a corporate entity and creates the right impression. It is crucial to the branding of the organisation/company. Branded email address is the customization of the email address for an entity. A free generic email address may project negative impact on a business.
A professional branded email address elucidates, builds and gives confidence and professionalism. And can captivate a niche in your line of business.
OBJ spices NIRA 2017 Retreat
It was unbelievably exciting, recanting the re-delegation process of .ng to NiRA, which was made possible by the Elder Statesman, Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Mathew Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo GCFR. The occasion of the reminiscences, was the 2017 NiRA Retreat, at the Green Legacy Resort, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Chief Obasanjo graced a session of the retreat and was briefed of the progress made, since the re-delegation of the national resource. Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, the Secretary of the NiRA Board of Trustees was on ground to take Chief Obasanjo down the memory lane of how he, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), ensured that the .ng country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) delegation management was handed over to a multi-stakeholder body which birthed NiRA. Despite the fact that this occurred in 2005, and with his many experiences in life, Chief Obasanjo could recall the events of that time, unbelievably and with remarkable ease!

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ("ICANN") is seeking a provider to conduct an independent assessment of its Nominating Committee (NomCom).
The Nominating Committee (NomCom) is an independent committee tasked with selecting members of the Board of Directors as well as other key positions within the ICANN's structure.
The NomCom is designed to function independently from the ICANN Board, Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. NomCom members act only on behalf of the interests of the global Internet community and within the scope of the ICANN mission and responsibilities assigned to it by the ICANN Bylaws and contribute understanding of the broad interests of the Internet community as a whole and knowledge and experience of specific Internet constituencies who have appointed them.
The Request For Proposal (RFP) is to identify an independent assessor who would conduct a comprehensive assessment of the NomCom including (but not limited to) the continued purpose of the NomCom within the ICANN structure; how effectively the NomCom fulfills its purpose and whether any change in structure or operations is needed; and the extent to which the NomCom as a whole is accountable to the wider ICANN community.
