A Message From The President

October 11, 2018                       Volume 6 No. 144
Please Comment on the Draft of the Revised NIRA Constitution

Your Association NIRA, is a bottom-up multi-stakeholder private sector led partnership between the Public and Private sector, for the management of the nation’s very important resource on the Internet, the country Code Top-level domain, .ng.

Having been in existence for the past ten years, there definitely will be some challenges that the experience we have garnered over the years, will have taught us what to do. We are currently in the process of reviewing the constitution of the Association, to bring it up to date with realities, empower the registry for the growth of the ccTLD and also reposition the association to take its rightful position amongst the other ccTLDs in the world.

New version of AFRINIC Internet Routing Registry Released

AFRINIC, the Internet Numbers Registry for Africa, has released a new version of its Routing Registry service. You can read more about the new version of AFRINIC Internet Routing Registry (IRR) via the link https://afrinic.net/en/services/afrinic-irr

This new version has removed the need for the Autonomous System Number (ASN) holder to authorise route or route6 objects.

Previously, the route and route6 objects had to be authorised by both the holder of the IPv4 or IPv6 address space, and the holder of the ASN. In the case that the ASN and the address space were held by different organisations, then there was a process for semi-authorised objects to be held for seven days pending complete authorisation. In the case that the ASN was not issued by AFRINIC, then hostmaster staff had to authorise the route or route6 objects.

Procedure for .gov.ng Domain Registration
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has released on its website the guidelines/procedure for the registration of .gov.ng domain names. Registering relevant domain names are often determined by some factors. The domain must be simple, memorable, available, and so on. Another factor that is very vital is the right to register the domain name. Top Level Domains (TLDs) are categorized based on the content or purpose of the website.
For commercial and regulation purpose .ng Registry from inception created TLDs zones on second level and classified them as closed and open domain names. .gov.ng falls under closed domain which means, to register a .gov.ng, approval from government agency must be provided and verified by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Detailed guidelines on procedure for .gov.ng domain names has been publish on https://nitda.gov.ng/gov-ng-domain-registration/

All registrants interested in .gov.ng registration are advised to read the guidelines.

All websites/portal of government constituents at all levels (Federal, State and Local governments) or specialized projects of government that would last for 18 months or more are required to register on .GOV.NG zone.
