Important Administrative changes in NIRA

I am pleased to announce very important Administrative changes in the Management of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA).
Mrs. Eyitayo Iyortim will assume the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of NIRA with effect from 1st December 2018. Eyitayo comes from a rich Information Technology background with a keen eye on Project Management and Operational Excellence. We are delighted to attract such a talent as Eyitayo to NIRA, and look forward to her contributing positively as a member of the NIRA Family.
In the last four years, Mrs. Edith Udeagu has brought a lot of stability to the NIRA Secretariat, in her role as the Chief Operating Officer and the Head of the Secretariat. With effect from 1st December 2018, Edith will assume the role of the Executive Secretary to the Board of NIRA, and the Head of the Secretariat.



ICANN - Contractual Compliance: Addressing Domain Name System (DNS) Infrastructure Abuse
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has released two new circulars, namely on increasing transparency around compliance activities and Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure abuse.
The Contractual Compliance Monthly Dashboard now includes more information regarding registrar-related DNS abuse report handling complaints, including reports regarding spam, pharming, phishing, malware and botnets. It also includes information on counterfeiting, online pharmaceutical concerns, fraudulent and deceptive practices, trademark or copyright infringement and complaints regarding registrar abuse contacts.

Galaxy Backbone Limited has the responsibility of maintaining Government services, offshore data services and promoting data sovereignty across the country and securing Government information system.
Galaxy Backbone Limited was created when Government was spending a lot of money on ICT and was not getting the commensurable value. The MDAs were doing different things. The activities of the MDAs were not complementing each other.
Galaxy Backbone Limited has the responsibility of providing a common platform for all Federal Government MDAs and is to be in charge of all Federal MDAs data sovereignty across the country.

NCS 40th Anniversary and NITMA 2018
The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) celebrated its 40th Anniversary in promoting Information Technology Advocacy in Nigeria. The event was held in conjunction with the National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA 2018) on Friday, the 16th November, 2018 which also doubled as the 40th Anniversary Awards, Special Recognition Awards, Fellowship Conferment, IT Industry Awards and IT Personality of the year award.
AFRINIC launches a New Website
African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC), the regional Internet registry for Africa, launched a New, Fresh, Information and Bilingual website.
The new website was deployed on AFRINIC website domain to replace the old website. The new website is available in English and French for now with plans to add an Arabic section planned for 2019. The new website provides a user-friendly browsing experience for AFRINIC members, the community and all the stakeholders.
The website has an improved structure, navigation as well as consolidated pages to ensure that information is easy to find.


AFRINIC-29 will hold from 26th to 30th November 2019 at Tunis, Tunisia.
