PRESIDENT’S SPEECH
 
WELCOME TO NiRA 13TH AGM [VIRTUAL]
Come, Thursday 29th April 2021, NiRA will hold its 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM). This will be a virtual meeting due to the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. NiRA members would be expected to attend the 13th AGM via the Zoom Meeting Link that would be circulated to NiRA Members. 
As of 13th April 2021, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its website stated that ‘new confirmed COVID-19 cases were recorded in Nigeria’.  NCDC still advises that despite the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine, we should adhere to the COVID-19 safety guidelines in order to contain the spread of the virus. Nigerians have been urged to continue to take responsibility.

Call for Presentations for AIS'21 Online
 
The Africa Internet Summit (AIS) is an annual and regional multi-stakeholder ICT conference. It is an educational and business ICT event in Africa where key players in the Internet industry can interact with the global Internet community. This conference was launched in the Gambia in 2012. Nigeria has always participated at the annual AIS conference. The Summit consists of seminars, workshops, tutorials, conference sessions, birds-of-a-feather (BOFs) and other forums for sharing ICT knowledge within the African region.
The organizers invite individuals wishing to make presentations during the event to be held online, from 31 May to 4 June 2021 to submit proposals and/or abstracts.

NATIONAL BROADBAND PLAN: ATCON CALLS ON PRIVATE SECTOR PLAYERS IN ICT TO COMPLEMENT GOVERNMENT'S EFFORT
 
On Thursday, 25th March 2021, the Nigerian Telecommunications and ICT industry under the auspices of the Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) held a virtual structured engagement with stakeholders on the New National Broadband plan 2020-2025.

Engr Ikechukwu Nnamani, the current President of ATCON and Treasurer on the NiRA Executive Board of Directors, in his keynote stated that it had become imperative for the private sector players to support all the government’s effort. The ATCON President expressed that the high-power virtual event was put together to have a conversation around the New National Broadband plan 2020-2025 with a view to ascertaining the status of the implementation.
Engr. Nnamani said the event would help the industry identify the bottlenecks that might exist, to the successful implementation of the New National Broadband plan and proffer lasting

NiRA PRESIDENT at NITDA CERT
Mr. Muhammed Rudman, President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) was with the Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Wednesday 14th April 2021. The objective of the visit is to identify areas of collaboration between the two organisations, especially towards mitigating abuse of the .ng domains.
