The MOOC revolution

Education means a lot to the development of the Internet. It started as an experiment in the Academia, because researchers and educators needed to communicate. It spread across the continents of the world. Not done, researchers needed to communicate with the Industry, and of course, not to be left behind, Commerce was added to the compelling reasons for having the Internet.

Because education is something that is priceless and constantly being pursued by most people, we must continue to explore ways that the Internet can be used to spread knowledge. This is where Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) come to the rescue, and provides a window of opportunity for the less privileged to also be educated.

Being a Better Webmaster
As we all know, the Internet is the predominant way, businesses and organisations associate to their clients and each other. The organization and maintenance of the content of a website has become complex and requires special talents, focus and skills. Website content managers and webmasters are responsible for the information available on the website of most businesses and organisations.  As a site owner, it is required that you have the best possible webmaster.  In recent years, the profile of webmasters has risen with the increase and reliance on online marketing and online trading and businesses. The following are just a few of the activities carried out by webmasters who know their onions.

After building a powerful website, it is important that regular updates are carried out. The first being regular update of the website content. Note that, adding new content to the site on a regular basis confers a powerful SEO advantage that could lead to higher site ranking in the natural search results.  This, in turn, leads to increased traffic and provides tangible benefits for investment.

NiRA 2017 AGM Highlights
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) held its 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM) Friday 28th May 2017. The AGM is a yearly meeting of the members (General Assembly) to receive from the Executive Board an Annual Report, the Financial Statements for the preceding financial year, the Auditor's report on those statements and a Business Plan and Budget for adoption or amendment. It is also an avenue to elect members of The Executive Board, should there be a vacancy.

For the month of April 2017, there were a total of 5,855 domain name registrations. This figure is more than the April 2016 registrations of 4,221. This was indeed a remarkable improvement. The April 2017 total registration is a bit less than the March 2017 total registration of 6,797.

What is New with ICANN Reviews?

ICANN's Bylaws require that ICANN conduct regular reviews across the organization and on specific subject areas. This is an important part of ICANN's continued effort to serve the global community within its mission and scope. In an effort to make it easier to follow the ongoing work of the respective reviews, ICANN would be providing regular updates to the community.
The Multi-stakeholder Strategy and Strategic Initiatives (MSSI) team is responsible for facilitating the reviews in coordination with identified internal teams and the community, depending on whether it is an ICANN-Specific or Organizational Review. Organizational Reviews assess ICANN's Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) to determine how effectively they operate, how well they achieve their purpose and how accountable they are to the multi-stakeholder community. Specific Reviews address a range of specific topics, such as Accountability and Transparency (ATRT), Consumer Choice, Confidence and Trust (CCT), Security and Stability (SSR), or Registration Directory Services (RDS). The timing of the respective reviews is mandated by the Bylaws. Reviews deliver findings and recommendations to help improve ICANN and its SOs and ACs. They are mandated by the ICANN Bylaws and are critical to maintaining a healthy multi-stakeholder model.
