Mr. Murtala Abdullahi joins NiRA Board
Mr. Murtala Abdullahi, an entrepreneur who is the Founder of Smartweb Nigeria Ltd and Eshal Concept Enterprises has been elected to the Board of NIRA.
His election is sequel to the resolution of members at the 10th NiRA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on the 30th of April 2018, that the vacant position on the NiRA Board should be filled by conducting an electronic General Meeting e-GM in accordance with the constitution of NIRA.
Mr. Abdullahi’s election is the culmination of the process of Nominations and electronic voting, which took place over a period of seven weeks.
Mr Biyi Oladipo Appointed as ICANN ccNSO Liaison to the GNSO
Mr. Adebiyi Oladipo, the Financial Secretary of NIRA has been appointed by the Country Code Name Support Organization (ccNSO) of ICANN as one of its Liaisons to the Generic Top Level Domain Name Support Organization (GNSO) of ICANN. The appointment is with effect from May 2018.
As specified in the ccNSO Guideline for Liaison and Observers, the ccNSO appointed liaison to the GNSO shall report to the ccNSO Council monthly on the activities of the respective organization. The ccNSO appointed Liaison to the GNSO shall represent ccNSO values in these efforts, shall pursue specific direction from the ccNSO Council as and when given, and shall seek ccNSO Council advice as and when needed.

Nigeria was represented by two worthy emissaries, Mr. Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director Paradigm Initiative and Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA) Jnr, Founder CFAtech.ng and a Director, on the Board of Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA). Mr. Sesan spoke on “Internet Freedom and Net Neutrality at Stake: How to defend Digital Rights”.
The Sixth Africa DNS Forum
The sixth Africa DNS Forum will take place 3rd
July 2018 at Cotonou, Benin under the theme “Building a Sustainable Domain Name Industry in Africa”. The Forum is co-organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Africa Top Level Domains Organization (AfTLD
), and AfRegistrar
. It will be hosted by the Regulatory Authority of Communications Electronics in Benin (ARCEP
). This year's forum follows on the success of the preceding forums, held in Durban, South Africa (2013), Abuja, Nigeria (2014), Nairobi, Kenya (2015), Marrakech, Morocco (2016), and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2017).

2018 Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF)
This is to inform you that the 2018 Edition of Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) holds on the 2nd and 3rd July 2018 at Shehu Musa Yaradua Center, Central Business District Abuja.
This year’s forum, with the theme, “Internet: An enabler for good Governance’’,
is focusing on multi-stakeholder dialogue on how the Internet will enable both e-Governance and public governance in Nigeria. The outcome is expected to enhance consensus building among stakeholders on Internet Governance framework, address the most critical and evolving issues on Internet Governance and also advance the nation’s position at the regional and global IGF.
The 2018 edition of the NIGF will also feature hands-on experiences on Internet governance for the youths to build capacity in value creation and empowerment that the Internet presents with the theme “Internet for Opportunities, Value Creation and Empowerment”
on the 2nd of July 2018 at Shehu Musa Yarádua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja.

, The convenor has stated that they have firm patronage from the Ministry in charge of the digital economy of the Republic of Benin and that invitations have been sent to key partners, namely the UNDP, Organisation de la Francophonie, USAID, ISOC, ICANN, AFRINIC..etc
The sponsorship campaign has been launched and we look forward to your contributions and donations are sought.
The pre-conference event of 5th July in the afternoon has been confirmed with a cultural tour from 14.00pm to 19.00 pm
Conference agenda has been drafted and key panelists have been contacted - This event is being organized back to back with the 6th Africa DNS Forum organized by AFTLD, ICANN and other partners, and hosted by ARCEP (The telco regulator) of Benin
