Equinet Annual General Meeting 2016

Annual General Meeting: The General Assembly of Equinet Members meets in Brussels today and tomorrow, 29-30 September, for the 2016 Annual General Meeting (AGM). This will bring senior management representatives from Equinet member national equality bodies together with high-level EU representatives. 
The 2016 AGM will focus on our work on standards for equality bodies, as well as the Workplan for 2017.  Read more...

Launch of the European Directory of Equality Bodies

Members' Directory: The European Directory of Equality Bodies will be officially launched at our AGM today. This Directory brings together up-to-date profiles of our 45 members, as well as offering comparable charts on their mandates and functions. Watch out for the announcement on Twitter via #NEBDirectory and check our website for further details.

Plans for 2017: On 30 August, Equinet representatives met with a variety of social partners and civil society organisations in order to highlight priorities of Equinet’s draft Work Plan for 2017 and to hear about their current and future priorities in order to find synergies  for cooperating in the future. Read more...

Ethnic origin/Sexual orientation: The "HELP in the 28" Programme organised an European Seminar on the "Fight against racism, xenophobia, homophobia and transphobia", in collaboration with the Spanish School for the Judiciary in Barcelona on 26 and 27 July.
The objective of the Seminar was to analyse the phenomena of racism, xenophobia, homophobia and transphobia in Europe as well as the most effective legal ways to prevent and prosecute crimes related to these. Read more...

Germany: Celebrating 10 years of anti-discrimination law

Anti-Discrimination: The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (FADA) are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, together with that of the German General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). A very well attended event in Berlin this week, brought together dignatories from Germany and around Europe, including German Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Heiko Maas and EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, Věra Jourová. While the advances in combatting discrimination in Germany thanks to this piece of legislation were applauded, both the Commissioner and Head of FADA Christine Lüders reminded us how much remains to be done in Germany and Europe to extend the same rights to all.   Read more...

France: Study shows extent of ethnic discrimination in access to employment

Ethnic origin: The Defender of Rights has launched the results of a call for evidence conducted in spring 2016 on ethnic discrimination in access to employment. These results illustrate the variety of challenges faced by people of foreign origin and the impact on their professional and personal lives. Read more...

Finland: Equality bodies host Equinet Board

Engagement: The Equinet Executive Board and Secretariat were invited to Helsinki on 7 September by our Finnish members, the Non-Discrimination Ombudsmanand the Ombudsman for Equality, to meet with staff members and Finnish stakeholders to discuss the work of equality bodies and common challenges for equality in Europe. Read more...

Poland: Summary of the report on the activity of the Ombudsman in Poland

Annual Report: The Polish Ombudsman (Commissioner for Human Rights) published its Activity Report for 2015, focusing on the most important matters in the fields of constitutional and international law, criminal law, labour law, social security and uniformed services, civil law, administrative and economic law and the principle of equal treatment and combating discrimination. Read more...

We all share the same dreams!

Sexual identity/Gender identity: Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity has no place in our society, but for many people in Europe, it is a daily reality.

To tackle discrimination against LGBTI people in the EU, the European Commission has put forward the ’List of actions to advance LGBTI equality’, including a communication campaign to improve the social acceptance of LGBTI people. The campaign, launched on the occasion of EuroPride in Amsterdam,  features LGBTI and straight people sharing the same dreams. The campaign focuses on the things that unite us rather than divide us and underlines that hopes and dreams are universal to us all. Read more...
