Music Education:

May the augmented fourth be with you!

Welcome to the May 2018 edition of the Yorkshire Youth & Music bulletin.

We know the beginning of the month has been and gone, folks, but we couldn't resist the musical pun that is also one of our favourite intervals - the augmented fourth (for non music theory fans, sing the very first two notes of The Simpsons, before the tune kicks in).

So with this in mind, alongside our appreciation of John Williams for writing a stellar score (just last year it was 40 years since the first Star Wars film appeared on screen), we're guiding you, young Skywalker, through this month's offerings. All this should definitely help you avoid the dark side:

Even if, like Freddie Mercury, you don't like Star Wars, you can still send your news to us via facebook, twitter or

All the best,

Yorkshire Youth & Music News

YY&M is delighted to have been awarded a grant from Children in Need for our Deaf Instrumental Learning Programme.

We're running a series of workshops giving Deaf and Hearing Impaired (DHI) young people the opportunity to experiment with different kinds of music and try out instruments with support from some brilliant Deaf professional musicians. We then work with our colleagues in Music Hubs across Yorkshire to organise instrumental lessons for them and support local music teachers in facilitating lessons with DHI children.

Find out more here.
The Singing & Signing Space
In honour of our continuing work with Deaf and Hearing Impaired (DHI) children, we are sharing our resources with you for FREE, one per month for the next 12 months, in our Singing & Signing Space.

This month, we've got the third instalment of our resource videos for singing and signing with YOUR choir or in YOUR school...

Another great warm up song, Hands Tum Knees Bum definitely has a sense of humour and also is a fantastic addition to any singing and signing library.

Here's the video of the song, signed by our facilitator, Paul Whittaker OBE, on our YouTube channel.

Please take a look at our current projects for the types of work we're doing and the young people we're working with now. And feel free to contact us if you want to get involved!

A bit of bad lip reading, a dose of humour and a silly song about seagulls...
what's not to love about this Star Wars parody?
