MAY 2013

If you have been to the gun club recently you have seen the new steps going from the parking area to the pistol range. Member James Wiley’s grandson, Dallan Roetker designed and built the steps to complete his Eagle Scout badge. Supplies were provided by donations and the gun club. Dallan would like to thank the individuals that helped him build and complete the steps.

We applied for a NRA grant to install sound deadening boards on the ceiling of the rifle and pistol ranges and our grant was approved. The sound boards have been ordered and will be installed when they arrive.
The club house repairs have been completed. Member Dale Vogt owner of AAA Heating and Air conditioning installed a HVAC system in the club house and finished the kitchen ceiling to match the main club house ceiling. The repairs were much needed and an improvement to the building. We are working on replacing the lids on the trap houses with sliding lids rather than the existing lids that are lifted open. It takes two adults to open and close the lids and they are a hazard.
We have two 4-H groups that are using the LE Range to instruct juniors on shooting 22 rifles.
April 28th member Jim Mulhall instructed sixteen boy scouts on archery and air guns so they could receive their merit badges.
Ken Weaver has stepped down as Trap Director effective May 1st. Ken has been the trap director for the past few years and has done a great job, thank you Ken for all your time you put into this position. Ricky Fernandez volunteered for the position and he has been voted in by the Board of Directors as the new Trap Director; Ricky has a team of members that will help him keep the trap and skeet running smooth. If anyone is interested in helping out you can contact Ricky at the club. We are still looking for a Skeet Director to fill that position on the board; anyone interested can contact a member of the board for more information.
We will be finishing our spring Junior Trap session this next month. We have had several shooters return from last session and have added new shooters. All of the juniors have progressed and want to shoot more and more. Six or our juniors recently traveled to Santa Ynez Gun Club for a tournament, they all shoot very well. We will be holding a tournament at our club for our shooters this next month. The trophies have been donated by Ricky Fernandez of Precision Tactical, Thank you Ricky for your support to our juniors. Some of these juniors will also be competing at the California State Shoot held the last week of June.  The shotgun program is sponsored by the NRA.
This past year we were grandfathered in with the NRA to become 100% NRA. What this means is all new members must join the NRA. We also added to our renewal forms for next year a place to enter your NRA number.

Have fun and shoot safe
