The holidays are upon us and the Board wishes you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. In the haste and hustle of the holidays don’t forget to take time to appreciate everything that our Creator has bestowed upon us and give a prayer or a gift to those less fortunate.
November 7th was the annual election of Directors. Elected for 2018 are Nick Mosich (Chairman), Keith Baker, Butch Phillips, John Silva, Linda Lee, Jerry Dillard, Ken Weaver, Jay DeCou, Gary Grabowski, Gary Hazard, Joe Franzone and Jerry Zalusky.
Joe Franzone and Jerry Zalusky are new board members. They will serve as Members at Large. They are both local businessmen and bring a wealth of experience to SLSA.
The officers for 2018 are: Nick Mosich, President; Keith Baker, Vice President; Butch Phillips, Executive Officer; John Silva, Secretary; and Linda Lee, Treasurer.
The Program Officers are: Jerry Dillard, Skeet Director; Ken Weaver and Gary Hazard, Trap Directors; Gary Grabowski, Rifle & Pistol Director, Jay DeCou, Junior Rifle Director.
November 19th was the annual Thanksgiving Shoot. The day before more than 30 SLSA members came to help prepare for the event. Their dedication and efforts were very appreciated. These volunteers are crucial to the continued operation of SLSA.
The event was a success. Everyone had a good time. Match winners were given their choice of a turkey or $15.00. Over 60 turkeys were given away. If you did not attend, you should consider coming next year.
There will not be a Christmas Shoot this year. The Board felt that having two events in such proximity was not productive.
On December 16th, SLSA will host a Work Party for general range clean up and maintenance. Please come out and help your Association maintain our facility. Participants will be awarded a $10.00 dues credit and Service Credits.
All ranges will be closed on December 24 and 25 and on December 31 and January 1 for the holidays. This allows both you and our neighbors to peacefully enjoy the holiday season without undue disturbances.
Safety on the rifle and handgun ranges has improved this year. But still, many members routinely fail to wear their membership identification. Other common violations include failing to follow the “Yellow Line” rules and rapid firing. These violations commonly occur when the range is less populated. Please observe all the Operating Procedures. They are for your benefit and the safety of everyone on the range. You may download a copy of the Operating Procedures from the SLSA webpage.
Membership renewal forms have been mailed, and you should have received one. If you did not, you may contact John Silva at firstname.lastname@example.org or pick up one at a SLSA meeting held at 6:00 pm on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.
Commencing January 1, 2018, an initiation fee of $50.00, in addition to the annual dues, will be charged to all new members and to any returning members that do not renew their membership in a timely manner. The final day to renew your membership without incurring the additional fee is March 1, 2018.
SLSA will not host Tactical Pistol Matches in 2018. We do not have a qualified match director to operate the program. If you or someone you know is interested in managing the program, please send an email to me at email@example.com.
In January, we will be sending each member a survey. The survey is designed to determine your views, interests and opinions on how to improve SLSA and your experiences as an SLSA member. We hope that everyone participates.
Until next time.
Nick Mosich, Vice President
On Behalf of the entire SLSA Board,
