August / September 2012 Newsletter

Annual membership cards have been sent out. Your card should be visible while at the gun club, if you need a card holder we have them available at the rifle shed when a director or assistant range manager is present. Card holder with a clip is $1.00, if you want a bull lanyard it is an additional $1.00, or you can pick one up at Staples, Office Max, etc.  At the end of the year you will receive in the mail an invoice to pay your membership dues and when it is returned we will issue you a new membership card for that year. Membership dues have gone up, cost for regular membership is $125.00, seniors 65 and older are $80.00, and active military is half price. You can also reduce your membership by attending the work parties; we have three major work parties during the year. The Saturday before the two turkey shoots and the Saturday before the ham shoot. Contact a committee chairman or a board director.
Nomination of officers for the 2013 board of directors will be at the general meeting held on October 2nd at 6:00 PM at the club house. Election of officers for the board of directors for the 2013 year will be held on November 6th at 6:00 PM at the club house. Anyone interested in becoming a board member can check in the SOPs for the basic responsibilities of each director or contact one of the directors with any questions.
In the past years we have applied for and received grants from the NRA, these grants have been for our youth shooting programs. We have also been grandfathered into the NRA as 100% NRA members. All new members must belong to the NRA and we are asking all renewing members to join the NRA. You can join or renew your membership with the NRA through the gun club, contact the Secretary for more information.
The junior rifle program has started and the junior shotgun program is starting in September, for more information you can check website or contact Jay DeCou for junior rifle or Keith Baker for junior shotgun.
We sent out an email asking for members interested in donating time as assistant range managers. We had several members enquire and they are working different shifts at the rifle and pistol ranges.  Their main jobs are to check and verify that the people that are shooting are club members and that everyone is shooting safely. The feedback that we have received has been positive. If you would like to donate some time to your gun club contact the secretary at slsaboard@gmail.com . You can also shoot while watching the range as long as it’s not too busy.
There have been some changes made in the SOPs. You should check and read the range rules and SOPs from time to time and keep up with any rule changes.  Recently we had a member that was shooting after hours while the red lights were on and flashing (major safety violation). His membership has been revoked.
Remember to swipe your gate card even when the gate is opened, this is for your safety.
Our annual ATA trap shoot will be on September 22nd and 23rd, on Saturday evening after the BBQ we have a raffle for the trap kids with all money going to the kids working the shoot. If anyone would like to donate a raffle gift you can bring it to the club on Wednesday evening or Sunday morning or contact the secretary John at 440-0986.
