  • In 2016 the FSPCA helped 554 new stray animals and 87 surrendered animals from Fluvanna County! During the year, 408 pets were adopted into forever homes, 156 pets were reclaimed by their owners and 67 pets were transferred to partner rescue organizations- what a great year!
  • In honor of national spay/neuter month we'd love to share that in 2016, 351 animals came to the shelter unaltered and we were able to arrange for the spay/neuter of 291 of them thanks to your support! Even without subtracting owner reclaims and rescue transfers, that's still 83% of all the animals from 2016. Our goal is to maintain that percentage at 100%! Last year, spay/neuter costs alone were nearly $30,000. You can support 2017 FSPCA spay/neuter success with your donation to our spay/neuter fund today!  Click here to donate. We’re also working on additional ways our community can help us to spay and neuter all FSPCA shelter animals for whom it is safe.  Stay tuned for “Sponsor-a-Spay” details in the coming months!
  • February Hound Dog Adoption Special- all hound mixes at the FSPCA have $40 adoption fees until the end of the month!

  • The Lonely Hearts Club <3  is a group of shelter pets that have been in the shelter's care for 6 months or longer. There are currently 2 dogs and 7 cats in the club, and they all have low $20 adoption fees! These furbabies just need a chance to show a family how great they are~please help us to find their furever homes soon!
  • Fostering with the FSPCA: Our FSPCA foster families help us by providing short term care which allows shelter animals to grow, recuperate, socialize, and learn about family love. Learn more about fostering on our website or by calling the shelter.
  • The new PetSmart store in Charlottesville (near Wegman's) has an adoption center that hosts FSPCA kitties that are ready for adoption!! Stop by to visit or adopt a kitty today- might as well pick up last minute pet supplies or shelter donations while you're there ;)
  • What do the shelter pets need most? Our top-three current wishlist items are pooper-scoopers, cat treats, and infant puppy/kitten supplies! You can donate these, and other items, through Happy Tails pet supply store in Palmyra, VA or through our Amazon Wish List.
  • Pup Alert! Dobbin (pictured below) is a year old male pup that is looking for an adopter or donor(s) to fund a bilateral simultaneous MPL stabilizations surgery he needs for his back legs. Virginia Veterinary Specialists quoted this surgery at $2,600-3,200. Dobbin absolutely LOVES other dogs, and warms up to humans of all ages. If you'd like to donate towards his surgery, be sure to list his name in the memo, and call the shelter if you'd like more information (434-591-0123). So far, generous donors have contributed $350 toward Dobbin’s surgery.  Can you help us get him the rest of the way? Click here to donate!

Alumni Updates
Furever family stories warm our hearts. We recently received this special alum update on our pal Valentino:"Just wanted to share some photos of Valentino, who we started fostering in July and adopted in August. He was a little timid and nervous at first, but is now so confident and happy. He loves to run off leash and immediately responds to commands, gets along with his kitty sister, and was a great companion when I was recovering from foot surgery. We are so happy to have been able to give this beautiful, loving dog a home." Thank you to Valentino's foster turned forever family for sharing his story, and for turning a temporary home into a lifetime of loving care. We'd love to hear your own FSPCA "Furever" stories. Please send updates and photos to to share.
