PAW PRINTS for June 2019
The Fluvanna SPCA turns 30! 1989-2019--Thirty years of serving Fluvanna pets in need! <3

We are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing Fluvanna County homeless, neglected, and abused dogs and cats. As a small, rural, open-intake shelter, we are proud to maintain a no-kill mission. The FSPCA also proudly serves as the county's Public Animal Shelter for the Fluvanna community. Our staff collaborates with the Sheriff's Animal Control Officers to take in and care for stray and neglected animals, and help to reunite lost pets with their loved ones.  Every donation allows us to continue this life-saving work. Thank you for caring. <3

You can help us celebrate at our “Fur-Raising Fun” event this Friday, June 21st—see details below. Come join the fun!!

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Last month 11 animals found their forever homes, 10 were reunited with loving families, and 1 animal was transferred to a wonderful rescue partner--a total of 22 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 7 pets in the club--available cuties are: Leon/Jackson, Thelma, Swirly, Brent, Brenda, Camilla and Della. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
  • June is #adoptasheltercatmonth We have lots of great cats and kittens currently! So come by the shelter to meet them or give us a call at 434-591-0123 - fosters and adopters needed! You can see all of our available pets on our website: www.fspca.org .

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
  • Volunteer! We are always in need of volunteers to help with our adoption outings, shelter socialization, transports and fundraising events. You can learn more about volunteering with us here: http://fspca.org/volunteer.html. With summertime almost here, we can especially use shelter volunteers to help with landscaping projects, socialization for cats and dogs, and giving our canine shelter pets walks in the nice weather!
  • The shelter is currently in need  of  Canned cat and kitten pate. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist here: (http://a.co/iVY4MS0). Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Foster! You can help one of our shelter pets heal, grow, and/or learn about life in a home. Each foster brings our pets that much closer to a furever home of their very own. Learn more about fostering with us here: fspca.org.
UPCOMING EVENTS! Don’t miss these special events, which support adoption, and the ongoing care we provide our homeless Fluvanna pets. You can see all of the details on our Facebook events page.

  • Join us for our “Fur-raising Fun” event is this Friday, and help celebrate our 30 years of caring for Fluvanna pets at the FSPCA! This event will be hosted at Cunningham Creek Winery-- we’ll have Mouth Wide Open Food Truck and Catering there for delicious food for purchase, and the band BiG for awesome music! Many thanks to Dan MacDougall from Loan Depot for sponsoring the music for the event!

Kids 2 and under are free, tickets for those who are under 21 are $10 and those 21 and older are $20 (includes a glass of wine). Event volunteers needed:  Volunteers needed for Sprint Pavilion “Belle and Sebastian” concert Thursday, July 11th! Pavilion events are always fun and a great way to help get the Fluvanna SPCA name out into the community! We also receive a donation for volunteering that benefits the animals in our care! Volunteers will need to arrive no later than 5:45pm and we are usually done between 9:30-10pm. Email events@fspca.org to learn more!
PUPDATES: Our beautiful Thelma was featured on Susie's Senior Dogs to try and help her to find her forever home, sooner rather than later.<3 Please share! She is a sweet girl who is pretty easy going, yet she would also enjoy being your walking partner. Thelma has done well at adoption events and greets everyone that says hello, but don't be offended if she doesn't get overly excited - she opens up when she gets to know people, so she is just waiting to bloom in a forever home. If a potential adopter already has dogs in the home, we would require that they bring them by the shelter for a meet-n-greet to make sure it is a good fit. Our Lonely Hearts Club members, such as Thelma, have a low $20 adoption fee. The FSPCA is open to working with rescues in other states, and we do allow for adopters out of state if they come to meet the pet they are interested in. If a potential adopter lives nearby, or in the state of VA, we could set them up with our 'Paws to Consider' program which is a 30 day foster-to-adopt opportunity. You can learn more about Thelma here: https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/22792128-troy-virginia-hound-unknown-type-mix.

CAT TAILS!  June is designated as "Adopt a Shelter Cat" month. It's also "kitten season," so many fabulous felines are waiting for furever homes at the FSPCA, and shelters across the country. Won't you visit the shelter, and share their photos and stories to help them find families of their very own?

We've got all colors, ages, shapes, sizes and personalities. One is sure to be the purrfect fit for you! Check out sweet Celestine, Chanel, Chantel and Claude below, currently being fostered by our amazing foster Mom, Helena. These cuties will soon be available for adoption, and we've got many others who are already waiting for your love. You can see all of our currently available kitty cuties here, or with a visit to the shelter Wednesday-Sunday Noon-5. (They love visits and playtime, hint, hint.)

PAWESOME THANKS TO:
  • Thankful for our Rescue Partners! 1 waiting pet was transferred to a rescue partner since our last update. Thank you this month to:  CASPCA for transferring Huey the cat!

  • The pawesome ladies of the Charlottesville Derby Dames chose the FSPCA as their honored charity this year, and at their recent double header bout. We were also able to share information about the FSPCA with the crowd. Paw fives to volunteers Pam and Melissa for helping us spread the word!

  • Grateful for support from our wonderful community partners! Charlottesville Veterinary Hospital is holding a Pet Food Drive to benefit the Fluvanna furbabies at the FSPCA and Caring for Creatures this summer. We are so appreciative of their kind hearts and generous donors!

  • Big thanks to the Fluvanna Radio Control Flying Club for their support of Fluvanna rescues, including the FSPCA, at their annual “Wings and Wheels 4 Paws” event! “Wings and Wheels 4 Paws” featured radio controlled planes, vintage cars, and pets in search of forever homes. Many thanks to volunteers, Ellen, Pat, Taylor, Abreanna and Board Members, Katie and Pam! Our pups Della, Mia, Penny and Sandy enjoyed their day full of fun (check out sweet Della below)!

FOREVER FAMILY <3 In Search of Forever…Meet sweet Senior Danny Boy! “Hello my name is Danny Boy! I was owner surrendered to the shelter due to my owner being sick. She did not want to surrender me, but had no other choice. I am very loving, and I love to sleep in the bed by your side. I had a urethral obstruction back in 2016, but I am doing much better. The doctor recommends that I stay on C/D diet or SO diet mixed with water daily for the rest of my life to prevent future blockages. I am current on all vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.”

As a super senior, Danny has a low adoption fee of just $50 to help him find a new home. Won't you come meet him this week, or share his photo and story with family and friends to help him capture the eye of the loving family he dreams of? Every share brings him closer to his special home.

Have an FSPCA alum update to share? You can message us on our Facebook page, or email outreach@fspca.org. We love to see our furbabies with their wonderful Forever Families!

Please continue to share the love, and our homeless pets in search of forever, by sharing our newseletter, Facebook and Instagram posts!

Thank you all for supporting 30 years of caring for Fluvanna pets in need at the FSPCA! <3
