PAW PRINTS for February 2020
It’s that time of year—the beginning of “kitten and puppy” season. How can you help? Be sure to spay or neuter your own family pets, educate, support spay and neuter programs in the community, sponsor a surgery for one of our waiting shelter pets, or be willing to foster, adopt and volunteer during this busy time of year. Every animal spayed or neutered prevents many more homeless pets in need. YOU can make a difference. <3

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Last month 26 animals found their forever homes, 16 were reunited with loving families, and 8 were transferred to wonderful rescue partners--a total of 50 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 6 pets in the club--available cuties are: Brent, Shiloh, Hollar, Killian, Mr. Tiggs, and Chuckles. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
  • Just a few more days to take advantage of fee free adoptions! Through the month of February, all adoption fees are being paid by CMA Colonial Auto Center in Charlottesville! Any dog or cat in our “Paws-to-Consider” foster-to-adopt program also qualifies, as long as the adoption is finalized before the end of the month. So what are you waiting for?! Come meet your perfect match and make the day/life of one of our shelter pets in need by adopting!
HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • The shelter is currently in need  of  Cardboard trays for use as litter boxes. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist. Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Fostering! We are always in need of caring fosters. Learn more here: http://fspca.org/foster.html .
  • Visit the shelter to walk dogs or socialize cats, and help our shelter pets to take a break from winter temps and indoor spaces. We can always use additional help for adoption outings and upcoming events! You can learn more about volunteering with us here: http://fspca.org/volunteer.html.

Make your donation go twice as far!! One big way to help--consider a donation to the ongoing “Raise the Roof" Capital Campaign! Get ready for our own version of “March Madness!” We’re excited to announce a generous offer from a Fluvanna family to match up to $3,000 of donations made to our capital campaign during the month of March, to help us move closer to our $30,000 fundraising goal! Funds will be used to help make necessary improvements to the shelter facility in order to continue to provide the best care for the animals in need in Fluvanna County.

Are you filing your taxes through H&R Block? If so, for each new client our organization refers to them, they will provide a $20 reward to our shelter!
All you have to do is take the flyer provided below to any H&R Block location while you file and they will use our special code to donate $20 to our shelter at no additional cost to you. If you are not planning on going to H&R, you can still help by sharing the form and encouraging others to bring the form when they have their taxes prepared. There is no limit to the number of referrals an organization can generate.

PUPDATES! Meet Hollar! This sweet boy is looking for his forever home.
Hollar is a big sturdy pit bull with a personality to match. He is so quirky and fun!
If you want a goofy guy, come meet our Hollar.

Hollar will need some basic training on some behavior and manners as the shelter life has him a bit worked up. He is also dog selective, so we would recommend a meet and greet with any current canines to make sure they mesh well.

He is current on all vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.

KITTY TALES!  Chuckles here, is another cutie looking for a forever home. Do you have dogs? If so, Chuckles is not for you--however, he acts like one. For some reason, Chuckles does not like canines, and he is not afraid to pounce when he sees one. He does however enjoy other felines. Chuckles has been with us for a whole year now, and we want him to have another family of his own. As much as we love him, he deserves so much more. He loves attention, FOOD, and toys. Before coming to us, Chuckles was an outside kitty, but he has adjusted really well indoors. He is also an asthma kitty, and will need allergy medication when he has flare ups, but most of the time he does well without them.

Please help us share sweet Chuckles to help find him a home. For the month of February, his adoption fee is covered by CMA's Colonial Auto Center!

PAWESOME THANKS TO:

  • Thankful for our Rescue Partners! In June, 8 waiting pets were transferred to rescue partners. Thank you to: Richmond SPCA, Peaceful Passing's and Charlottesville Veterinary Hospital.
  • Paw fives to FSPCA volunteer Nischala Kellie, who not only spent time in recent months visiting with our FSPCA kitties who are available with our friends at the 5th Street PetSmart in Charlottesville and sharing their stories, she also adopted one of her favorites!  Nischala also reached out to serve as a PetSmart volunteer and shelter liaison, to help socialize and get our feline friends ready for forever homes. Thank you for caring!
  • Big thanks to our wonderful friends at Our Lady of Peace, who supported us through their annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. What a wonderful event! Everyone at Our Lady of Peace was so welcoming! They raised $1,100 for the shelter and collected lots of food and supplies for the animals. Thank you!
  • Thankful for every adopter who opens up their homes to a shelter animal in need. You make all the difference in the lives of these homeless pets, who are just waiting to share their love. <3
  • Thank you Fork Union Military Academy for coming out this month to help our shelter by cleaning up our walking trails and front yard, and walking dogs. Your support helps us continue the work we do for our shelter pets and helps give the pups extra enrichment. Thank you!

FOREVER HOMES <3  In search of Forever. <3 Mr. Tiggs here is still wondering why no one wants to take him home. He has been patiently waiting since 5/6/19.

“I am a very handsome fella who is looking for a forever home with a loving family. I love attention from people and boxes! I came to the shelter with a urethral obstruction, and was taken directly to a clinic for treatment. I will need to be fed a special diet mixed with water daily for the rest of my life to prevent future blockages.  I will also need a home that has no children, I prefer to be the only cat, and I do not care for dogs. So while I need just the right fit in a forever home, I promise to provide lots of love in return! I am current on all vaccination, Micro-chipped and neutered. Won’t you come meet me, or share my photo and story, today?”

Learn more about Mr. Tiggs here: https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/25290317-troy-virginia-cat Remember, through the month of February ,all adoption fees are being paid by CMA Colonial Auto Center in Charlottesville!
