PAW PRINTS for January 2020
We look forward to working with all of you for another year of sheltering, care, and finding forever homes for homeless pets in need. Thank you for partnering with us!
Bring them in from the cold! Cold weather is here. Please take time to include your furbabies in your preparations. If you get cold, they get cold! Bring your babies in for the night; make sure they have food, water, shelter and warm conditions. Keep an eye on neighboring animals, and alert their owners and/or Animal Control, as necessary.
Each animal matters. Let's work together to keep them ALL safe, warm and healthy!
  • Last month 36 animals found their forever homes, 12 were reunited with loving families, and 7 were transferred to wonderful rescue partners--a total of 55 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 7 pets in the club--available cuties are:  Mr. Tiggs, Chuckles, Angelica, Lazlo, Shiloh, Brent, and Jersey. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
From one of our volunteers and board members, Kate:
"I had a wonderful time yesterday visiting with some of the animals currently at the shelter while taking some photos. We have so many wonderful dogs and cats just waiting to meet their potential forever home - we have young ones, old ones, and a variety in between, with all different energy levels, so won't you come by and say hello and meet them?! And if you are not currently in a position to be able to adopt, we can always use help sharing their cute faces and stories on social media, and we can of course always use donations, volunteers, and fosters!"

From top left clockwise in the photos we have Reuben, Lazlo, Reuben with Kate, Shiloh, and Pickle. You can view all of our currently available pets (and our kitty friends) on our website:
  • The shelter is currently in need  of  liquid laundry detergent, pine pellet litter and canned cat food. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist. Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Fostering! We are always in need of caring fosters.
  • You can learn more about volunteering with us here.
One big way to help, consider a donation to the ongoing Raise the Roof" Capital Campaign! Won't you help us to start 2020 off right, by helping us move closer to our $30,000 fundraising goal? Funds will be used to help make necessary improvements to the shelter facility in order to continue to provide the best care for the animals in need in Fluvanna County.
We, of course, will also gladly accept donations to our general fund which can be made through PayPal (using the email, our website, or through a mailed check. Thank you so much for making a difference!

PUPDATES! Foster Needed for sweet Rocko!  Shelter life is stressful  for many animals, but for Rocko, it is miserable. Can you help this guy get a break from the shelter? More about him: Rocko is a two-year-old pitbull who was seized by animal control from a neglectful home. He is so stressed in his kennel that he barks constantly until he is hoarse. The staff feeds him plenty of food to keep his weight steady. Despite medication and a special diet, he has chronic diarrhea--this could be due to stress. Rocko has a number of mast cell skin tumors that are malignant, but are a grade 2 (the lower grade of cancer). Shelter staff is consulting with veterinarians regarding these tumors, as well as his neuter surgery. Rocko loves walks, and is an affectionate boy who craves attention. He has not been tested with other dogs or cats. What he really needs is a caring foster home to get him out of the shelter. Please call 591-0123 if you can help Rocko.
KITTY TALES! Meet sweet 10-year-old senior Leo! I am a very big handsome fella. I am a big love bug, and all I want is for someone to love me and allow me to cuddle in your lap. I would love to find my perfect home. I do not do well with other felines, so I am recommended to be an only cat. I am current on all shots, micro-chipped and neutered. His recent foster Mom, Susan, shared: “Leo, who we fostered, would make a wonderful cat companion for someone looking for a snuggler. He would be happiest to be the sole snuggler in the family.”
  • Thankful for our Rescue Partners! In June, 7 waiting pets were transferred to rescue partners. Thank you to:  Green Dogs Unleashed, Charlottesville Veterinary Hospital, Peaceful Passings Senior Animal Rescue and Richmond SPCA.
  • We are very happy to share that the Fluvanna SPCA was one of the recipients of a BamaWorks grant! The funds will be going toward medical expenses for the animals in our care. We would like to extend our most sincere thanks to #Bamaworks and the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation for your generosity and support!
  • Big thanks to Chris Uttenweiler who helped to clear our walking trails after a tree fell and blocked the path. Our pups are so grateful!
  • Grateful for caring fosters who give shelter pets the time and love they need to discover the joys of a loving home and family, and help us learn about the best forever fit for each animal.
  • Thank you to our transporters, who help make adoption outings, and all important spay neuter surgeries happen.
  • Big thanks to the Rabies Clinic volunteers who help us to keep our community safe!
