PAW PRINTS for September 2019
September 15th through 21st has been designated as Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week—come by the shelter this month to meet our “Lonely Hearts Club” members (animals at the shelter more than 6 months), and make their dreams of a loving family, come true!

We have so many sweet faces patiently waiting for a forever home. Please come visit, or share, to help our shelter animals find homes. We are filling up quickly, and running out of space. All available FSPCA animals are up to date on age appropriate vaccines, preventatives, spayed or neutered, microchipped and have been heartworm tested. Below are cuties Bliss and Angelica. You can view all of our animals here.
DID YOU KNOW?
  • Last month 37 animals found their forever homes,11 were reunited with loving families, and 18 were transferred to wonderful rescue partners--a total of 66 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 6 pets in the club--available cuties are: Brent, Swirly, Thelma, Leon, Eli and Boone. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
  • The shelter is currently in need  of Canned kitten and cat food, Purina dog chow and Purina puppy chow. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist. Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Foster! You can help one of our shelter pets heal, grow, and/or learn about life in a home. Each foster brings our pets that much closer to a furever home of their very own. Learn more about fostering with us here.
  • Volunteer! We are always in need of volunteers at the shelter for socialization, to lend a helping hand at adoption and fundraising events, and to help transport animals to veterinary appointments. Learn more here.

UPCOMING EVENTS! Don’t miss these special events, which support adoption, and the ongoing care we provide our homeless Fluvanna pets. You can see all of the details on our Facebook events page.

“12 Strays Soiree” is just around the corner! The calendar has struck the Autumn months, and the aroma of pumpkin spice mingles with the last lingering heat waves of summer. That can mean only one thing--here at the Fluvanna SPCA , we are gearing up for our annual “12 Strays of Christmas” fund drive, and the ever-popular “12 Strays Soiree,” to be held December 14th at Cunningham Creek Winery.

We are currently seeking financial sponsors for the evening. If you are interested in donating, please contact us at outreach@fspca.org for more information.

Mark your calendars now for December 14th! We will be sharing times and ticket information as it becomes available--we hope to see you all there, in support of our shelter pets. Thank you for your support!

PUPDATES: Poor Brent has been overlooked for such a long time. Perhaps because he is a pit bull, or he is black (he's actually brindled), or because he doesn't show well. He is a member of the Lonely hearts Club having been at the shelter for more than 6 months. If you'd give him a chance, you'd see how enthusiastic, silly, fun and affectionate he is. He loves to give everyone kisses! He loves walks, toys and his best friend, Swirly. He is so excited to go out that he pulls on the leash so a harness and some training would help him walk more politely. He and Swirly were adopted together a long time ago but brought back when the adopter had to move. Brent is dog selective, no cats, and only older children. Come see how special he is! https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/23340782-troy-virginia-pit-bull-terrier-mix

CAT TAILS: Meet our sweet and stylish orange, senior boys, Tommy and Leo! They lived together in the past, so a home together would be pawesome, but just finding purrfect forever homes for them each is the main thing. Come meet them this week, or share with family and friends to help them catch the eye of their special someone. A little more about these cuties:

Tommy is such a calm, friendly, and sweet cat. He does very well with other cats, and doesn't seem to mind dogs either! Tommy/Beau keeps to himself a bit, but he has a very loving personality, and loves attention. He would make the perfect lap cat! Take him out and get to know him--there's a lot to love! Current on all shots, micro-chipped and neutered. https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/26233254-troy-virginia-cat

Leo is a big, handsome fella. He and Tommy/Beau lived together in a home, and got along just great. Leo is a big love bug, just waiting for someone to share snuggles. He loves cuddling and purring on your lap. This sweetie is current on all shots, micro-chipped and neutered.https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/26233252-troy-virginia-cat

At 9 and 10 years of age, Tommy and Leo are considered "seniors" for our adoption fees, so they each have a low adoption fee of just $50 to help them find homes, but as kitties, they have so, so much more time and love to give! Share the love. <3

PAWESOME THANKS TO:
  • Thankful for our Rescue Partners! In June, 18 waiting pets were transferred to rescue partners. Thank you to:  Green Dogs Unleashed, CASPCA and Peaceful Passings.
  • Grateful for all of our fosters and transporters, for making such a difference for our shelter pets!!
  • Thank you Peaceful Passings Senior Animal Rescue for giving sweet Sparkles a nicer place to rest her paws until finding her forever home!
  • Big thanks to the folks at Jubliee Fest for letting us share our pets, and more information about the FSPCA, this month!
  • Thankful for Rescue Partners who help us to give our Fluvanna shelter pets their best chance at finding a forever home and family. The caring folks at Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge recently took in sweet Camilla, to help make space at the shelter following a local hoarding intake, and to give her a foster experience--and even some additional training!
  • The PetSmart Adoption Event this month was a big success! Five dogs, Lilly, Roz, Carol, Nymera and River got lots of attention from everyone. Sweet River went to a "Paws to Consider" home. Carol was taken on an outing to the downtown mall with Meagan and Kelly. Many thanks to Karyn, Petsmart manager, and to Kurt, Petsmart trainer, and his wife, Vicki for transporting the dogs. Our other volunteers were Stephanie, Brittany, April, Board members, Linda and Pam. Big thanks to all!!

FOREVER FAMILY <3 Check out this pawesome update from adoptive Mom Katherine, on FSPCA alums Dash (formerly Ace) and Sarabi--living the good life in their feline furever home! <3

"Hello! I wanted to give you guys an update on 2 kitties I adopted August 31, 2016--Dash and Sarabi! We changed Dash's name to Ace. This was their adoption photo, and the other photos are of the past 3, amazing, years we have had them!

Sarabi is just the most amazing cat! She loves people, and loves all her brothers and sisters. She has the softest toe beans and paws you have ever touched, she loves grooming everyone, and also loves to kneed on mommy. Momma gets free back massages each night--It’s wonderful!

Ace is a stud muffin! All the ladies love him, but he is the best big brother for a younger kitty, Cali. They play so well together, love grooming each other, and they love scaring each other and their siblings. Ace will get behind the quilt, and when someone walks by, he smacks their feet. J
They both have been amazing. We love them so much!"

Thank you so much for sharing, Katherine, and for giving them such a wonderful place to call home! <3

You can message us on our Facebook page with your own FSPCA Forever Family updates, or email to Outreach@fspca.org. We love to see our furbabies in their loving homes.
