PAW PRINTS for May 2020
June is officially “Adopt a Shelter Cat” month. Won’t you please consider giving a furry feline a loving place to call home? <3

The Fluvanna SPCA shelter building is still closed to the public.

We continue working to do our part to help cut down on the spread of COVID-19, and with our animals' and employees' best interests in mind by reducing foot traffic. The animals at the shelter continue to receive wonderful care just as they normally do, so no need to worry.

If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or if you would like to drop off donations during this time, you can make an appointment to do so by contacting our shelter manager:

We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time for everyone, and we will be sure to keep you updated as soon as we will be open again to the public.

~ FSPCA Board

  • Last month 12 animals found their forever homes, 8 were reunited with loving families - a total of 20 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 1 pets in the club - This available cutie is: Tripp. Please share his phots and story, to help them find the forever home he's waiting and wishing for.
  • Your feline friends also want you to know that June 4th is “Hug your Cat Day”! Of course, we all hope that is every day!
DONATEWe are experiencing a significant drop in income from the decrease in activities and having to cancel all off-site fundraisers. As an organization that depends on your generosity to feed and care for hundreds of animals, we are worried about how this loss of revenue will affect the animals who depend on us especially in regards to vet visits. Will you consider helping us through these uncertain times by giving today? The FSPCA is not affiliated with any national animal welfare organizations and receives no ongoing funding from the ASPCA, the Humane societies, or any other shelter around us. Your gift to us goes directly to our organization here at the FSPCA.
Thank you for your support and stay safe!
  • The shelter is currently in need of a lawn mower (electric if possible) and cardboard trays for use as litter boxes. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist. Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Fostering! We are always in need of caring fosters, and now more than ever!  We currently have dogs and cats that can still be fostered and/or adopted that are still at the shelter. For more information, please call us at 434-591-0123. Learn more here: .
Pizza! Ordering in these days? Remember that your online order to our Palmyra Papa John’s makes a donation to the shelter at the same time!
PUPDATES! Meet Tiny! Tiny is a very friendly fella, who is looking for a loving home. He walks very well on the leash, but will need some basic training on things like sit and stay. Tiny is current on vaccines, but is also currently Heartworm and Ehrlichia Positive.

His current foster states that Tiny fits right in with their family! This family has cats and other dogs, and Tiny is terrific and well behaved. Way to go Tiny!
If you would like to meet Tiny, please call the shelter to make an appointment.
KITTY TALES! Meet Creamsicle! Creamsicle came to the shelter as a stray with several wounds. He began getting special care and attention from shelter staff. Creamsicle seemed to prefer to be outside, but because he was found to be FIV positive, he will need to be an indoor kitty only. Since being with us, Creamsicle is starting to come around more and more, and is enjoying more attention. He now lets us pick him up, and he comes to you for affection. This sweetie is current on all shots, micro-chipped is waiting to be neutered. Once neutered he will be available for adoption. Contact shelter staff to learn more, or help him prepare for his forever family by sponsoring his neuter surgery.

FOREVER HOMES <3 Thank you to adoptive Mom, Amber, for sharing this pawsome update:
"This is my little guy, Chino! I adopted him from FSPCA around 8 years ago. His favorite things are sunbathing his belly, running circles around his sisters, wearing sweaters, and peeing on the neighbor’s wife through the fence. We’ve been through college, 5 moves, a thousand bags of Cheetos, and lots of Netflix/hulu series together. He’s probably one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever owned, and even at 8 years old, loves to train and learn new tricks! Thank you FSPCA for the opportunity to share my life with him!"

Have an FSPCA alum or foster update of your own to share? You can message us on our Facebook page, or email We love to see our furbabies with their wonderful Forever Families!
Thank you for your ongoing support!
