Our feline friends want you to know that October 29th is National Cat Day too! Come meet our kitty furbabies, and treat your feline family members to even more loving affection in celebration! Check out our many kitties up for adoption here: http://fspca.org/adopt/cats.html.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Last month 52 animals found their forever homes, 3 were reunited with loving families, and 16 were transferred to wonderful rescue partners--a total of 71 animals with a second chance. Your shares, donations, and volunteer hours help to make these happy new beginnings possible. Thank you all!
  • Our Lonely Heart’s Club pets (animals at the shelter more than 6 months) have low adoption fees of just $20!  We currently have 6 pets in the club--available cuties are: Brent, Leon, Swirly, Eli, Punch and Shadow/Ruthie. Please share their photos and stories, to help them find the forever homes they’re waiting and wishing for.
  • October is also National Animal Safety and Protection Month. Be sure to take precautions to keep your furbabies safe in your home and out of doors, and look out for community animals with cold temperatures ahead. Check for animals sheltering under car hoods, and be mindful of holiday temptations. Be sure and follow veterinary recommendations for preventative care in your pets as well.

Some Halloween Safety tips for your animal friends:

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
  • The shelter is currently in need of canned cat and kitten food. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist.  Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Foster! You can help one of our shelter pets heal, grow, and/or learn about life in a home. Each foster brings our pets that much closer to a furever home of their very own. Learn more about fostering with us here: http://fspca.org/foster.html.
  • Volunteer! We are always in need of volunteers at the shelter for socialization and dog walks, to lend a helping hand at adoption and fundraising events, and to help transport animals to veterinary appointments. Learn more here: http://fspca.org/volunteer.html. You can lend a hand by volunteering to help with our December “12 Strays Soiree” by contacting events@fspca.org. Thank you all for your caring hearts!!

PUPDATES: Leon/Jackson is still in search of his very own Forever Home!

"I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100%!"

Leon - who has been with us for going on two years now, has been questioned many times on what breed he actually is. Staff decided to try to see for themselves, bit the bullet, and donated a DNA test to be performed. Turns out, Leon is 100% American Staffordshire Terrier!

Being most of our shelter animals come to us as strays without prior knowledge of past history, it is always fun to learn something new about them. We only hope that this can help Leon even more in search of his forever family.

DID YOU KNOW? The American Staffordshire Terrier isn't originally from America. Instead, these hard working dogs have their roots in England. Today, we recognize them for their intelligent and extremely loyal natures.

To learn more about Leon, you can visit his profile here.

CAT TAILS: Hello my name is Punch! I am FIV positive, so I would need to be a indoor kitty at all times. Our shelter staff would be happy to share more about healthy parenting of an FIV positive kitty. I love attention from people, and I enjoy sitting on the window sill looking outside. I would make a wonderful companion for my new family, and I’m current on all shots, micro-chipped and neutered. At 1 year 6 months of age, I have lots of kitty fun to share. Won’t you come meet me today? Learn more about sweet Punch here: https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/25042916-troy-virginia-cat .

FOREVER FAMILY <3 Landon finds love. <3

Sweet Landon began an FSPCA “Paws to Consider” (foster to adopt) placement on June 25, 2018 with a lovely family. Initially, his foster family was concerned he wasn’t happy in the new home, as he was slow to interact, eat, and play in their home. Shelter Manager Jessy was able to reassure them that if he was generally eating and drinking ok, to give him some time to adjust to new surroundings and people, and to feel free to contact the shelter with any concerns or need for veterinary care or assistance.

Landon’s new family also took the time early on to work with him on safe and proper play time, and interacting with their daughter. Puppies need care and proper training, just like little humans do. As Foster Mom Dakota shared: “He hasn’t had “people” before. He hasn’t ever had toys I don’t think. He loves toys!”
Fast forward to September 12, 2019. From Landon's now Forever Mom ♥:

"Hey!! Just wanted to check in with you guys. Not sure if you remember us, or Landon, but just wanted to let you guys know he is doing so great. Our daughter is now just over 2 , and we have a 5 month-old son. Landon loves them!! Working on space with the baby, but he tolerates our toddler's antics, and is sweet with her. He is still skittish of loud noises like hitting golf balls, or kicking a kick ball, but other than that, doing great. Just wanted to give y’all an update."

We love seeing our shelter pets living their best lives. If you have an alumni update to share, you can message us on Facebook, or email to outreach@fspca.org . Thank you for sharing the love!
