The school year approaches....

ServeUP 2014

For the past eight years, New England InterVarsity chapters have been giving their Spring Break weeks to travel to New Orleans and help rebuild the homes of the impoverished families who were devastated by Hurrican Katrina. Last year, a team of 6 SMCC students went, and it became one of the most important, catalytic events that happened in the ministry throughout the entire academic year. In fact, it sparked so much growth and conversation that we are recruiting a team of 16 students to go in 2014!! This year, the trip will be from March 7-15th. ServeUP is a HUGE opportunity for Community College students, who don't typically get the chance to go on service trips, and it will continue to be a major factor in the future years of this ministry.

Our work will largely be in partnership with the New Orleans area Habitat for Humanity. Watch this fantastic video to get an idea of what we will be doing!

How can you help?

Give:
I am actively raising funds to help defray the costs of this trip for students. In total, it costs an individual $595 to go to ServeUP, which covers food, lodging and transportation for the entire week. The financial needs are different for every person, some needing as little as $50, and others needing up to $300. If you have the ability to give, please consider a financial gift in this range, as it will go directly towards the trip cost for a student!

If you do feel led to give between $200 and $300, you will be effectively sending a student to ServeUP! I would LOVE to send you a picture and a short bio of the student that was able to go through your gift.

No matter what amount you are able to give, please click here to contact me and let me know.

Pray:
One of the exciting aspects of ServeUP this year is the number of non-Christian students planning to attend. With this in mind, I am seeking "prayer supporters" for individual students. If you are interested in actively praying for a student, I would love to send you a picture and some information about him/her. You could be an important part of helping a student enter the Kingdom of God! Simply respond to this email if this is of interest to you.

Finally, if you feel so led, please click here to donate to this ministry.

Much love,
Joel
