Back from New Orleans! (part 2)
In my two years of work with college students, God has used the ServeUP trip to significantly grow the ministry presence on-campus. Below is a comparison of the groups from the past two years...
Both these shots were taken at the bayou.
At least four of the students pictured above had not attended any InterVarsity programs before ServeUP, and now each of them is an active part of our on-campus community! Were it not for this unique experience, they may not have become part of our chapter, and we are already looking forward to how we can reach out and invite more next year!
Loving God & Your Neighbor
The truly exciting part of the ServeUP experience was our evening 'community time'. At this point in the day, we would gather, study scripture, and discuss what we were learning about God and faith.
100 students studying scripture after a day of service!
This was my personal favorite time of each day. We studied famous stories like Lazarus and Jesus healing the lame man near the pool of Bethsaida. Students were split up into small groups, and it was in this setting that they were able to be honest about their questions & doubts. Combined with the experience of serving others during the day, these conversations produced profound results. Along with the students, I was deeply impacted! The theme of 'loving God and your neighbor' repeatedly emerged, and has become a major goal of our work back on-campus together.
