After 24 summer Saturdays at the Kingston Farmers Market and a handful of other events, Karmabee set up at 8 holiday fairs to round out the year. Thanks to everyone for coming out to support your local artists!

After 4 amazing years here in the Kingston Rondout, I'll be closing the store in January and moving on to new ventures, but fear not! Karmabee products will always be available online at
and it may even pop up again someday in unexpected places...

The store is currently open every day with lots of Karmabee and local artists' products, plus furniture and supplies for sale. Come visit while ya can!

KINGSTON, NY: Karmabee owner and artist Karen Berelowitz will host a closing party on Thursday, January 14, to celebrate four years at her 73A Broadway location and to thank all her friends, supporters and faithful customers who value shopping locally and supporting artists. Karen announced in November that she decided to close the Kingston store after "an amazing experience running my own business, watching the neighborhood grow and transform, and most importantly, making many wonderful and lifelong friends."

Karen will continue to sell her Karmabee cards, baby clothes, T-shirts, temporary tattoos and other products featuring her popular black & white designs online at and at the stores listed on her website ( The store will remain open until the farewell celebration (see website for hours).

Karmabee began in the summer of 2007 while Karen worked at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck during a “short break” from her international development career in Washington, DC. Having always doodled, she had plenty time to do so during workshops at Omega, where people often asked if she sold her doodles, a concept she found strange, having never considered them artwork. She was nonetheless inspired to photocopy a few designs onto postcard paper to sell at a crafts fair, and was amazed to sell 80 of them. She followed suggestions to print her designs on note cards and baby clothes, learned to screen print, and the small business began to expand. She never did make it back to her DC career... spending four more seasons at Omega and growing Karmabee via crafts fairs, wholesale, and an online Etsy shop.

In 2011, Karen saw a beautiful space for rent in the Kingston Rondout and impulsively decided to open a studio and storefront, selling her own goods, which she creates on site, as well as products made by local artists. She learned accounting, marketing, retail, social media, and all aspects of running a small business, and eventually taught classes to help aspiring entrepreneurs do the same.

Karmabee became a regular presence at the Kingston Farmers Market, participated in the monthly summer Night Markets, joined Re>Think Local, the Hudson Valley Etsy Team, and other organizations connecting local business owners, and was featured in an episode of the Chronogram's Art Scene Web TV series highlighting Hudson Valley artists. "I'm enormously grateful for the enthusiastic support I received as a newcomer to this community, which creates such a welcoming environment for artists and small business owners," said Karen.
