Our January lecture is entitled "My Grandfather's 1870s Sojourn in Australia" and will be given by Michael Tubridy in the Teach Ceoil at 8 p.m. on Tuesday 28 January 2020.
Two sons of Cornelius Tubridy of Drumellihy, Patrick and Sinon, emigrated to Australia in the 1870s. Sinon became Simon and died there in 1916, but Patrick returned to Clare and settled in Ballykett. Many years later, Patrick's grandson Michael also made his way to Australia - as a member of The Chieftains who toured there. This was an opportunity to investigate his grandfather's life in Australia. Michael's talk will tell the story of his Tubridy grandfather's 1870s sojourn in Australia.
KDHS lectures are free to members, EUR5 for non-members, payable on the night only. New members are welcome. The annual membership fee (July-June) is EUR20.
