Dear KDHS members and friends,
On this Tuesday 30 March 2021 at 8pm, we will be continuing our online lecture series. The topic will be Reflections of Scattery Island and our speaker is Kilrush native and Office of Public Works (OPW) tour guide, Morgan Roughan.
The theme of the lecture will be how the history of the island reflects Irish history. The main body will be about the early christian settlement and St. Senan, but Morgan will also talk about the Battery, Cahane's castle, the Spanish Armada, the lighthouse and finally the river pilots.
Morgan has worked as an OPW tour guide on Scattery as well as at Listowel Castle. He has an MA in History of the Family from the University of Limerick. In the past few years he completed courses on Reading Your Local Landscape and on Writing for the Web, both run by the Limerick & Clare Education and Training Board. He is currently finishing a course on Regional TourGuiding and Irish Heritage, also run by LCETB.
His project concerning the pilots on the Shannon Estuary can be viewed on the following link
