From the President's Boat
Important: Our friends at the DNR need your HELP!
Contact your Legislators and tell them you support the Minnesota fishing license fee increases for Residents and Non-Residents. It is only $3 increase to $25 for an individual license. All DNR funding is from license fees and they receive no general funding from the Legislature. The already have many projects and job replacements on hold due to decreasing revenues and more drastic cuts affecting all species will happen without it. The Legislature will not pass this increase if they do not hear from you!
Please contact the chairperson of the legislative committees with authority over DNR budgets and policies. These people need to hear from all anglers, not just their local constituents.

Red Wing Lodge Outing
Lake of the Woods
August 12-19, 2017
Build Opportunity into a New Year’s Resolution via Red Wing Lodge
Okay, we all understand the fun of picking up a new “secret weapon” or two, and what is really fun is when one of these special selections pays off in boating excitement. But now during hard water time, let’s consider this different question: Do you need more opportunity or more baits, more opportunity or more tools for catching that big Muskie? Big fish opportunity is awaiting you at Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, Canada. The resource and the big fish culture that has developed over the years at Red Wing can be captured in good part with the following single stat: over 14,000 Muskie releases!
How about this New Year’s resolution? Schedule in big fish Opportunity with a reservation for the annual August Muskie Inc. Outing to Red Wing Lodge.
This opportunity has been provided for years by the cooperative support of Mike and Anne Bartlett of Red Wing Lodge and our two local Muskie Inc. chapters.
The annual Muskie Inc. trip is a great choice for either that first Canadian trip or for the veteran’s extra trip. The convenience of a drive-in camp with the privacy you would expect on an island.
Dates for this year’s outing: August 12-19, 2017. Save your surprises for muskie action, you don’t need them at base camp. Red Wing Lodge offers a resort base that has been family owned and operated for 50 years, is clean and comfortable, where everything works. The Bartlett family has hosted Muskie Inc. outings for years with personal and friendly service, so they understand what muskie people need and like. Red Wing Lodge is a ten-time Chapter Challenge headquarters, in ’83, ’86, ’93, ’97, ’03, ’04, ’11, ’12, 2014 and again in 2016. Check out the muskie information, including the Red Wing Lodge Hall of Fame, as well as the first live cam in Morson at www.redwinglodge.net
Cost per person in housekeeping cabins remains at $350 (US Funds) for 2017, just $50 per day for big-time Canadian muskie fishing.
Included in the full value of the 2017 Muskie Inc. trip:
* Free Dockage ($72 value), Free Launch (both ways, $25 value)
* Free Dinner one night, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* One Free Trip, given away in drawing, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
* Free Wireless Internet Service throughout the Resort
* Free Daily Bag of Ice; door prizes
Reservations require a $50 non-refundable deposit, made out to Red Wing Lodge. Deposits officially confirm reservation holds. First come, first served.
Early deposits are appreciated by the Bartlett’s, these funds are used to purchase materials for cabin improvements, most of which can only be made over the winter.
To make reservations, or any questions or suggestions for improving the trip, contact:

Matt Seifert - Musky Mercenary Guide Service
Matt has been guiding muskies for 6 years and guide walleyes and crappie in the winter and spring on the Mississippi and St Croix River.
He guides muskies on Vermilion, Mille Lacs, Bemidji area, and the east metro.
His company Musky Mercenary Guide Service is dedicated to provide you with a safe, entertaining and educational day on the water. A guided trip with Matt will include learning boat control, mapping with GPS, the proper method of fishing structure, how to get the full potential from your lures and equipment and of course some good old fashioned story telling.
His experience as a dedicated and determined musky fisherman has led me to a substantial knowledge of waters where fish that exceed 50 inches are caught and released regularly.

2017 June Jam June 17-18
Preparations are underway for the 2017 June Jam tournament. Tournament dates will be: Pre-tournament sign in Friday June 17th at Wilkin’s Bar and resort on Bone Lake; fishing hours 5AM to 9PM Saturday and 5AM to Noon Sunday, Jun 18th and 19th with the awards ceremony at Wilkin’s starting at 1 PM on Sunday. If you’ve never fished it, give it a try. The two day format really lets you test your skills.
