From the President's Boat
I am proud to be re-elected for my sixth year as your Chapter President and 9th year on the Board. Thank you for all the Members that stepped up to join me and the Board this year Justin Opheim, Chase Evertz and most recently Nikki Bentley and Luke Pennig and those that have been here for the long haul Nick Poppler, John Genosky, Jason Wegwerth, Jason Espedal, Mark Kuether and Nathan Anderson. Special thanks to all the members that have stepped up to help out including Dennis Boehme and Jay Aigner.
Last year we improved the June Jam experience, the Red Wing Lodge Trip now sell outs, we made the Annual Fish Fry Fund Raiser even better, we held joint outings with WAM to introduce their members to Muskie fishing and more actively utilized our Face Book page to name a few. This year we plan to change the web platform and vastly improve our overall Chapter Website, improve the League Night experience, more actively utilize our Face Book page, continue to enhance the June Jam Tournament Experience, hold more joint outings with WAM and other outdoors groups such as the MN Darkhouse & Angling Association and other groups with common interests.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday January 21st that features renowned fishing guide Ryan McMahon who specializes in fishing our Twin Cities areas lakes, Western Minnesota and operates the Ryan McMahon Muskie School. He has written articles for Musky Hunter Magazine, Keyes Outdoors Online Magazine, Muskie Magazine and Badger Sportsmen. He’s appeared on Musky Hunter TV, Keyes Outdoors and other television shows. Please plan on attending.
We are a month and half away from our 15th Annual NMMI Sportsmen’s Fish Fry Banquet on Saturday February 22, 2020 at the Coon Rapids VFW for the all you can eat deep fried fish dinner. We modified our Ticket packages and there is an Early Bird drawing for a Tranx 400 reel for those that buy the Muskie Package by February 8th. We have wide variety of great prizes and new fun games to unveil. Check out our online Banquet brochure at http://www.nmmuskies.com/annual-banquet/ and register online now. We need volunteers to sign up to help during the Banquet. All workers receive a Chapter T-shirt. Please sign up at our January 21st Members Meeting or contact me.

|A New Year’s Resolution with Big Fish Opportunity Built In, Nice!
Okay, we all understand the fun of picking up a new “secret weapon” or two, and what is really fun is when one of these special selections pays off in fishing excitement. But let’s consider this question: “Do I need more opportunity or just more baits, more opportunity or just more tools
for catching that big muskie?” Big fish opportunity is awaiting you at Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, Canada. The resource and the big fish culture that has developed over the years at Red Wing can be captured in good part with the following single stat: over 16,000 muskie releases!
So, how about this New Year’s resolution
: Schedule in Big Fish Opportunity with a reservation for the August Muskie Inc. Outing to Red Wing Lodge?
This opportunity is a great choice for either that first Canadian trip or for the veteran’s extra trip. Red Wing Lodge offers the convenience of a drive-in camp with the privacy you would expect on an island
Dates for the 2020 outing: August 8-15. Save your surprises for muskie action, you don’t need them at base camp. Red Wing Lodge offers a resort base that has been family owned and operated for 50 years, is clean and comfortable, where everything works. The Bartlett family has hosted Muskie Inc. outings for years with personal and friendly service, so they understand what muskie people need and like. Thirteen times Chapter Challenge headquarters, in ’83, ’86, ’93, ’97, ’03, ’04, ’11, ’12, ’14, ’16, ’17, 2018, and again in 2019. Check out the muskie information, including the Red Wing Lodge Hall of Fame, as well as the first live cam in Morson, at www.redwinglodge.net
Cost per person in housekeeping cabins will be $400 (US Funds) for 2020, about $57 per day for big-time Canadian muskie fishing. Included in the full value of the 2020 trip:
Reservations require a $50 non-refundable deposit, made out to Red Wing Lodge. Deposits officially confirm reservation holds. First come, first served.
- Free Dinner one night, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
- One Free Trip, given away in drawing, courtesy of the Bartlett’s
- Free Wireless Internet Service throughout the Resort
- Free Daily Bag of Ice; door prizes
- Free Dockage ($72 value)
Early deposits are appreciated by the Bartlett’s, these funds are used to purchase materials for cabin improvements, most of which can only be made over the winter.
One change regarding launching boats: Due to liability considerations, there will now on be a charge if RW either puts the boat in the water or takes it out. However, the RW boat ramp remains free to use and the government dock, that some now use, is also free to use.
