Coming soon: The Douglas Clan Gathering!
View this email in your browser
Dear Clansmen and Clanswomen,

There are just over two months to go til we gather in Scotland to join together with our fellow clansmen and clanswomen from around the world to celebrate our heritage and history and learn more about the Douglas Clan.

For those who are including the Clan Gathering in a European tour, time to go is even shorter.

I will be in touch in early June to find out where you are staying (see below) and make final arrangements for your visit to Scotland. But if you want any help or advice in the meantime, do, please, get in touch.

Gathering News

Jousting at Linlithgow
Several of you have told me that you would like to attend a display of Jousting at Linlithgow Palace on Sunday 6th July. I will be in touch soon to arrange an upgarde to your tickets to enable you to attend this event - and gain entry to Stirling and Edinburgh castles at a saving of around £30.

Hotel Reservations

Our holding of block reservations for Dalmahoy (pictured) and Marriott Hotels ceases soon. If you have not yet booked, and wish to do so in these hotels, then time is running out!

Our reservation details are here:

I understand that some would like to visit Glenbervie on Friday 4th July to view Douglas monuments (above) and the house and church.

Whilst I am unable to make the arrangements with the owner of Glenbervie House, I would be pleased to co-ordinate a group travel arrangement.

If this is something that you would like to do, please let me know.
Banners and Flags
Proud to be a Douglas
I look forward to seeing Douglas banners and flags flying at Douglas castles when we are on our tours. The are definitely required for our group photographs. Please make room for them in your suitcases.

Let me know if you need a flagpole. Broom handles can be supplied!

Our host at Drumlanrig
Richard Scott, 10th Duke of Buccleuch, has called me to confirm that he can be at Drumlanrig on Saturday 5th July. He will join us for a group photograph.

On this day, we also visit Morton Castle and Durisdeer Church.

The coaches are booked!

Everything is in place to take us on our castle tours. We just need you to be there!

Pick up points will be arranged in early June.
The Royal family will be in Scotland during the week of the Douglas Clan Gathering fulfilling many public engagements. The Duke of Hamilton, our host on Wednesday 2nd July at Lennoxlove, is likely to be involved in some of these as he is the Premier Peer of Scotland.

Perhaps you have had an invitation to the Queen's garden party? If not, then beware that the centre of Edinburgh is a place to avoid as it will be exceptionally busy on Tuesday 1st July as guests arrive and depart from the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse will be closed to the public this week, but The Royal Collection  in the Queen's Gallery will be open.
Friday 4th July
A 'free' day

Choosing what to do on this day may not be easy. Whether you would like to visit the Edinburgh museums to view Douglas paintings and artefacts (The 1898 Frieze of Famous Scots in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh, includes Archibald Douglas 'Bell the Cat', 5th Earl of Angus (left) and Douglas portraits that hang in the gallery), or whether you want to travel further afield, e.g. to Glenbervie, then this is your day.

You might wish to take advantage of your 'Golden Ticket' to visit Edinburgh Castle. The Royal Collection will be open this week, but please note that HM The Queen is in Edinburgh so the Palace of Holyroodhouse will not be open to the public. Also at Holyrood is our Scottish Paliament. I think some of you are staying close by.
