Bilgola Newsletter 26th October

 Patrol News

It was cold, wet and very windy. The coast was battered by large seas and high winds. This allowed our patrollers time to start conducting proficiencies and training. Unfortunately, due to dangerous conditions, we saw the beach closed on Sunday and unable to support our happy Nippers however I am sure there weren’t too many complaints with 13 degrees, a large swell and 50km/h winds…!

Patrol reminder Saturday 31 October

Sat PM - Patrol 10

Patrol reminder Sunday 1 November

EOI - Bilgola Emergency Callout Team

Expressions of interest are sought for members to be part of Bilgola’s Emergency Callout team.
We are looking for volunteers to be registered as part of Bilgola’s callout team. A centrally coordinated response will occur should Bilgola be called to action out-of-hours.

  • There were 92 requests for assistance from emergency services during the 2019-20 season.
  • SLS is recognised as an emergency service and therefore some changes need to occur.
  • Due to higher incident rates, there will be an increased activation of Surf Lifesaving Clubs outside of patrol hours.
Ideally you will reside within 10 minutes of the club and hold multiple awards such as First Aid, IRB Driver and Crew. However please do express your interest if you are keen.
  •        As part of the callout team, you will participate in an induction/briefing.
  •        As part of the callout team, we will conduct scenario/exercises.
  •        Callout teams will receive additional kit to support out of hours response.

Training News

Skills Maintenance

This season marks a huge shift in the way we conduct surf lifesaving operations and we request all active members complete their online skills maintenance ASAP.

Online skills maintenance is where patrolling members will be educated and equipped with the new information they need to patrol this season. On account of COVID, online skills maintenance also covers off the dry components for Bronze/SRC holders, leaving only the wet proficiencies to be done in-person. Because we will be starting this soon on the beach, please complete the online. You will need to provide a printed certificate of completion of the online component to finish off with your wet proficiency.

For information on the new changes to Bronze and SRC, please see the video and info page below.

New Curriculum info page

You should have received an email about skills maintenance if you are a patrolling member and have access via elearning in the members area. If you have any trouble or questions please email

Seeking Volunteer Safety Ambassadors, from Northern Beaches Council

Protecting the community from the risk of COVID-19 is a key priority for Northern Beaches Council, especially coming into Summer as more people are out and about enjoying our beaches and public spaces. We know that our Surf Clubs, and their members, play a vital role every year at our beaches and in the water.
Northern Beaches Council are currently looking for Volunteer Safety Ambassadors to work alongside our rangers and lifeguards to provide friendly reminders about staying COVID safe during summer. We want to keep our beaches, reserves, parks, walking trails and other public spaces open for the enjoyment and wellbeing of the community while adhering to NSW Public Health Orders and recommendations.
The purpose of the program is to manage outdoor public spaces that are at risk of large gatherings, crowds and breaches of social distancing measures throughout the high risk warmer months. The program will run across 12 different locations, majority of these being popular beaches.
We are seeking support from our local SLSC to ascertain whether this is something your Surf Club Members would be interested in participating in over summer. Expressions of interest forms are open through our website.
