NEWS FROM THE EDUCATION NETWORK

Closing of the Danish Education Network
The Education Network will close down from 31st of January 2015, therefore this is the last newsletter from us. However, a new education collaboration under the auspices of "Globalt Fokus" as the working group now called the Danish Education Network is already starting up. You will recieve newsletters from this collaboration beginning from March, but it will as maximum come out four times a year, as there is no dedicated resources to write and send out the newsletter.
The new contact person will be: Helle Gudmandsen, (heg@ibis.dk), Head of Education Campaign, Education for All, IBIS; and Lead in "Globalt Fokus" Education Network.
CC: Sanne Müller, (sm@ibis.dk), Senior Education Advisor, IBIS.

Before we end the work, we have new materiales to share with you.
A second edition of our guide "Advocacy for Education – A step by step guide" is now available on the homepage. The guide has been reviewed in the context of a training course in which participants made suggestions for improvements. Also included is now a proposal for how a training around advocacy for education can be organized.
The guide has also been translated into Spanish. You can find both editions of the guide on the homepage in the archive under publications.

In relation to the work with quality education in the Education Networka questionnaire survey on how our member organizations work with quality education was conducted last year. Later we held a series of after-work meetings, and has recently commissioned two reports on quality education: 1) A review of studies and research in teacher education and 2) Four case studies describing how different member organization have worked with quality education. Both the conclusions of the survey and the two reports are to be found on the homepage.

Even though the Education Network is closing, the homepage will be functioning until October 2015, and all our materiales are available there.
Thank you very much for now!

Global Campaign for Education: Results for Learning Report 2014/15
"The 2014/2015 Results for Learning Report: Basic Education at Risk" examines the progress achieved by GPE partner developing countries over the period 2008-2012.
Universal primary education has never been so close, yet there are still 58 million children of primary school age who do not go to school around the world, and 41 million of them are in partner developing countries. The report cautions that if progress and investments are not maintained, the hard-won achievements could be reversed. Particularly, basic education is losing priority with the share of budgets spent on primary education falling gradually.

New International Guidelines Address an Insidious Gap in Protecting Education during War
On December 16th 2014 new Guidelines for Protecting Schools and Universities from Military Use during Armed Conflict was unveiled at the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Switzerland. The release of the Guidelines follows a March 2014 UN Security Council resolution encouraging all states to take action to deter the use of schools by armed forces and groups in contravention of applicable international law.
“The Guidelines provide a practical tool for preventing schools from becoming part of the front lines during war,” said Diya Nijhowne, the GCPEA Director (Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack). “By promoting responsible practice by commanders and their troops to preserve schools for learning, the Guidelines can help minimize the devastating impact of armed conflict on students.”
