Recent events have again shone a light on the historical and systemic inequalities that have existed in our country since its foundation. We stand in solidarity with all those protesting against police brutality and racism of all forms. TPOTPA is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion as one of our core artistic pillars. We stand for inclusivity in the broadest possible terms, encompassing the equitable and fair treatment of all members of our communities including but not limited to our team members, partnerships, and artist interviewees.

We stand with #BlackLivesMatter

It was a moment in time where everything paused and it felt like a movie. I almost didn't know what to do, I still am figuring out how to stay positive. I will never forget the silence in the room which still lives in the streets and the sadness that laid over everyone without having to say a single word because we knew from here on out it was going to be very, very tough.

- Zui Gomez

"I feel like in this space it is so interesting because everyone, every show is in the same boat. I think this is where we can all learn we are all the same... It's like a reality check. Having a freelance life comes with the responsibility of taking care of yourself financially, physically, mentally. This is the time to reevaluate your own health."
- Jason Williams
The Black arts community has been here before... The definition of Blackness is resilience and occupying a creative space that is now present because of destruction. My ancestors have been here before and being prepared for crisis is in my DNA, I'm convinced that's why I'm doing well.
-Akilah Ayanna
"The level of responsiveness from the individual and freelance artist community has been urgent and informed and charged and non-stop. I think routinely, with institutions and even employers of dancers, there is a divide in the understanding of how much we are valued... The collective body of people need to inform the decisions on a much deeper level."
-Tara Sheena
"I do fell like we are seeing more intentionality, in the sense that in order to connect we need to be more intentional of creating these connections with one another... with so much at loss and in flux, that is also causing us to really evaluate and re-set and think of what our current priorities are and our roles as citizens."
-Devin Oshiro (right)

"I feel like at times, in the busyness of our schedules and working many jobs, we lose intentionality to reach out to people we love and care for deeply. My dad passed away in November. You never know the last time you will get to speak to someone and that has been weighing really heavily on my heart recently. I have been trying to be really intentional about carving out time to speak to people and see them if I can."
