SANEC's End of Year Wine Tasting at Wijnboerderij Soest, the Netherlands
Last Wednesday - 9 December 2015 - SANEC hosted its End of Year Wine Tasting, at Wijnboerderij Soest. We are proud to look back at a successful evening as guests enjoyed glasses of delicious South African wines, made new connections and were able to win a 3 night stay at Zandspruit Bush & Aero Estate in Hoedspruit, South Africa. We would like to thank 5 of our valued members, Cape Dutch, het Wijnhuis Culinair, Aaldering Vineyards & Wines, Grande Provence and Wines of South Africa for making this night possible and providing bottles of their best wines for our guests to take home.

Agribusiness Mission from the DRC to the Netherlands
The Agro-food sector Delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo visited the Netherlands from the 22nd of November until the 27th of November 2015. The Delegation had the opportunity to visit the agro-industrial parks in the Netherlands, meet experts on agricultural innovation and technology, and through an organized roundtable got to connect with the Dutch Business Community working in their respective sector to formalize partnerships, establish new contacts and to create sustainable investment opportunities. SANEC would like to thank NCH (Netherlands Trade Council) for the opportunity to combine forces on this trade Mission, and to also acknowledge The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Congo Invest Consulting (CIC) for all their support and input during the Trade Mission.

Economic Mission from NL to SA headed by PM Rutte
From 16 - 20 November 2015, being part of the organisation of the trade mission to South Africa from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, SANEC facilitated Dutch companies from the agrofood and from the transport & logistics sector. The diverse programme with seminars, site visits and individual matchmaking led to many new and deepened business contacts. SANEC would like to thank the Dutch government and businesses and their South African counterparts for having contributed to making this mission a success.

SANEC Signs 3 New Cooperation Agreements During Economic Mission to SA
During last month’s Economic Mission to South Africa headed by PM Rutte, SANEC is delighted to have signed 3 new cooperation agreements to our members' benefit. We have signed with FCN - Founders Carbon Network - to strengthen SANEC’s business services in both the Netherlands and South Africa; Netherlands Agriculture, Food & Technology Centre (NAFTC) - co-signed by RSA-NL Horti Platform and Flora Holland to start with optimizing and professionalizing the Southern African food sector; Isah (MAP) - to increase competiveness in the SA market and to prepare the SA companies better for export.

Roadmap to Doing Business in SA Panek Discussion during Economic Mission to SA
Furing the Economic Mission to SA at House of the Future in Johannesburg, SANEC successfully organized the panel discussion 'Roadmap to Doing Business in SA'. This was hosted by Mixo Mayimele and Mark Agterdenbosch, and many businessmen learned a lot from hearing about the experiences in the South African - Netherlands market by our 3 panelists, SANEC members Trevor Gogo of Limpopo Water Initiative, Eric van Marle van Transparant and the DTI.

Supplier Development Opportunities for Dutch Companies in South Africa – Roundtable
During the Trade Mission headed by Prime Minister Rutte, on the 17th of November 2015 which took place at House of Future – Johannesburg, SANEC was delighted to be part of the seminar hosted ISDA and MAP in collaboration with the Royal Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The round table stimulated discussions grounded on new trade opportunities and possibilities for collaboration between South African and Dutch companies. Some of the information was about the Manufacturing Accelerator Programme (MAP) and how it can help improving your supplier base and competitiveness, in terms of cost, quality and on time delivery. The seminar saw some key note speakers such as the likes of Peter van Harten – MAP Worldwide and Thabiso Taaka – ISDA.

Vopak South Africa stems its foot in Durban
On the 17th of November 2015 Vopak South Africa one of board members took the first phase of sharing their strategic expansion programme in Durban – SA. “The programme aims to expand and enhance Vopak's infrastructure to facilitate supply of South Africa’s increasing demand for petroleum products and thus improve the security of fuel supply and facilitate the import of cleaner fuels to South Africa”. The programme was launched during Prime Minister Rutte’s visit to South Africa. This programme is aimed at increasing Vopak’s fuel storage capacity and is designed to service the transport needs of petroleum, diesel between Durban-Gauteng.

Agribusiness Opportunities in Zimbabwe seminar in Cape Town
On the 8th of October, SANEC and NABC hosted a second eye-opening seminar about Agribusiness Opportunities in Zimbabwe, for agro business entrepreneurs, agro private sector stakeholders, Delegations from the Netherlands – Zimbabwe – South Africa, Embassies or Consulates, Ministry officials, financial & legal institutions and last but not least agricultural production companies from the three countries. This seminar took place at the WESGRO offices in Cape Town, South Africa. We would like to thank H.E Consul General of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Cape Town, Mr B. Mugobogobo for opening the seminar.

Walvis Bay Corridor Group Round Table
On the 6th of October, an engaging Round Table was hosted by SANEC, To70 and Walvis Bay Corridor Group at the To70 offices in The Hague. The Walvis Bay Corridor Group is a public-private partnership established to promote the utilisation of the Walvis Bay Corridors, which is a network of transport corridors. Johny Smith, CEO of WBCG in Namibia discussed several business opportunities in Namibian ports and corridors for Dutch businesses. A wide variety of 15 interested attendees made this round table a very interactive one. The parties were able to connect and speak with WBCG and other potential business partners during this meeting.

Netherlands - African Business Meet
On the 30th of September 2015 SANEC, Fenedex and NABC organized an event at the KPMG office in Amstelveen, this was The “Netherlands-Africa Business Meet”. The theme of the event was for entrepreneurs and for business organizations to assimilate and master the manner through which other successful Dutch organization have " Sustained their growth in Africa" and how they have optimized their supply chain within countries that they operate in the continent. The afternoon saw our moderator Mr. Lanre Akinola, Former Editor and Founding Member of This Is Africa (TIA) offered everyone at the event, some thought revealing and insightful information on opportunities for businesses and potential investors in the African continent in the next coming years seminar.

No dividend withholding tax on distributions from the NL to SA
In a recent court case initiated by our Board member Albert Elzinga of PwC in co-operation with his South African colleagues, the Rechtbank Zeeland-West-Brabant has decided that a Dutch entity is entitled to a refund of half a million dividend withholding tax. This amount represents 5% dividend tax withheld under the Netherlands /South African tax treaty. A correct treaty interpretation leads to the conclusion that no withholding tax is due on dividends from the Netherlands to South Africa. This should be applicable to qualifying dividends distributed since 18 March 2012. PwC has argued that the so called Most Favoured Nation clause in the Dutch South African tax treaty prohibits the Netherlands to levy withholding tax. The court follows the views of PwC. SolarWorks BV meets with Marisa Gerards and PM Rutte
One of our members, Arnoud de Vroomen founder and Managing Director of SolarWorks! B.V met up with PM Rutte during the trade mission in South Africa to express his views as to how SolarWorks has been part of the great work in South Africa. SolarWorks BV met with Marisa Gerards Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands in SA during the Ritchie Rainbow Centre when they sponsored solar lights when the project was opened in August 2015.

RHIZA opens the Business Hub in SA and the Secretary of State Martijn van Dijk visits it
Secretary of State from Netherlands Martijn van Dijk visited the Orange corner-Business Hub in Johannesburg during their Trade Mission visit accompanied by Ambassador of the Netherlands in SA - Marisa Gerards and trade delegation entrepreneurs from NL. The visit comes after Rhiza partnered up with Kwasa a Netherlands organisation to help the needy. The project is aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs in an impoverished township - Diepsloot.

BAM Rehabilitation and extension Kilimanjaro Airport – Tanzania
Design and construct contract for the rehabilitation and extension of Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) in Tanzania, which is situated between Moshi and Arusha in northern Tanzania. The scope of work comprises the refurbishment of the terminal building (built in 1971), the construction of a new parallel taxiway, the extension of the existing apron and taxiways, including repairs on the runway, as well as the drainage and sewage works. Furthermore, BAM will install new airfield ground lighting and floodlights along the apron. Completion is scheduled for 2017.

First of two Shoalbusters for SMIT Amandla Marine named at Damen Shipyards Cape Town
The Shoalbuster series of multi-purpose, shallow draught workboats are designed for inland and coastal waters. The 30 metre 3009S has a bollard pull of 24.5 tonnes and is fitted with a crane with a lifting capacity of up to 1.7 tonnes, making it suitable for towage, buoy-laying, pushing and all-round support duties. These new vessels will carry out supply and support work for the De Beers Group’s offshore diamond mining activities out of Port Nolloth in the Northern Cape.
