(Vancouver, BC) – January 31, 2014 will be the last day diners can enjoy Wild Rice’s signature Kung Po Chicken at the Pender Street location. Wild Rice owner Andrew Wong is consolidating restaurant operations to New Westminster and will not be renewing the lease at the Vancouver location.
“This has not been an easy decision,” states Mr. Wong. “It’s time to spend more time with my family. I want to concentrate my efforts on the New Westminster location as I see the area as an emerging market. New Westminster has been tremendously welcoming and supportive of Wild Rice.”
Wild Rice first opened the doors of its Pender Street location in August 2001. “When we first opened, we were the only restaurant for blocks. We were also the first to bring the concept of ‘modern Chinese cuisine’ to Vancouver. I am very proud of that. We are also the first Chinese restaurant to embrace the local, seasonal and sustainable movement – working with local suppliers, using organic ingredients and being inaugural members of OceanWise.”
Wild Rice’s New Westminster location, which recently celebrated its second anniversary, is located in the River Market and features a state-of-the-art open kitchen, large lounge area and patio overlooking the Fraser River. For fans worried about Kung Po withdrawal, there is an easy solution - Wild Rice New Westminster is only a 30 minute Skytrain ride from downtown Vancouver. “I look forward to welcoming many of our Pender regulars to New Westminster. I know they are going to love it. See you at Pender before the end of January.”
