SPORTS CLUB HEALTH CHECK

This week's newsletter looks at the results from our Sports Club Survey, with over 1,600 respondents taking part, the report gives you the opportunity to see how your club stacks up against the rest of the nation.

We'll also be explaining how you can contribute to the BBC's Unsung Hero award, which celebrates volunteers who show up, bring people together and really make a difference in their community.

KEY FINDINGS FROM THE SURVEY

Key findings from the survey show that our sports clubs are in good health – with strong growth in participants and volunteers. Clubs continue to offer very good value for money, have impressive retention rates and work hard to engage with their local communities, but elements of the club landscape are challenging.

Be sure to check out our
‘SWOT’ analysis which summarises the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats within local clubs on page 27 and our recommendations to Sport England on page 28. Click here to view the full report.

NOMINATE YOUR UNSUNG HERO

BBC Get Inspired's Unsung Hero 2018 seeks out volunteers who are inspiring people of all ages to get up and get active. If you have your own local sporting superhero with an inspiring story to tell, don’t wait to give them the recognition they deserve - nominate them today.

Who is eligible?

The BBC wants to celebrate those special individuals helping in grassroots sports and fitness activities. From volunteers who offer fitness classes in communities, to the person who spends their free time running the social media accounts for dance clubs, or that one steward who turns up every week to cheer on the runners in their 5km races.

How do I nominate?

For the first time, nominations can be made via video and audio. To nominate your Unsung Hero by video, audio, online web form or via email, simply visit the website. Entries close on Sunday 21 October at midnight and the shortlist will be revealed in the days leading up to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in December, where we'll be saying a #BigThankYou!
