The sport sector has demonstrated a high level of commitment to good governance in recent years but we feel there is now a huge opportunity to drive positive change among local grassroots clubs.
For this reason, we’ve teamed up with Birkbeck Sport Business Centre to create a free sports governance workshop specifically for grassroots clubs and activity groups. The workshop will take place in central London on Tuesday 19 March from 18:00-20:30 and you can reserve your place today.

This workshop is perfect for sports clubs, community clubs, volunteers or organisers of sports activities in local communities, who are looking to review and revise their current organisational structure or need help establishing good governance practices. We understand that governance can seem like an overwhelming topic but it's important to understand and adopt good practice and this workshop will explain how you can break it down into manageable bite size chunks.
  • Learn about the benefits of implementing good governance within your club or activity group
  • Get practical advice from sports governance experts
  • Learn how being a well governed club can increase your opportunities with funders, partners and members
  • Network with other grassroots organisations, volunteers and sport representatives
This is a free workshop and light refreshments will be provided but registration is required and spaces are limited so book now.

We launched Committing to Good Governance earlier this week which reviews the governance commitment made by the sport and recreation sector in recent years. Andrew Moss, Sport and Recreation Alliance Chair said:

“This report addresses the question of what good governance looks like for the thousands of organisations operating at a grassroots level. It is important that any new requirements placed on local clubs and organisations must be proportionate and done in a supportive way to avoid stifling the crucial work of volunteers.”
