Bangsokol Virtual Festival
Presented by Cambodian Living Arts and ArtsEmerson

In response to the challenges and realities of 2020, Cambodian Living Arts and ArtsEmerson are presenting Arts & Healing: Bangsokol Virtual Festival from December 11th to December 20th. The program is inspired by the groundbreaking multi-disciplinary production, Bangsokol: A Requiem for Cambodia, which seeks to honor victims of violence and explore the healing, hope and resilience of survivors.

Through this festival of online performances, talks and film screenings, artists, audiences, and leading cultural organizations from around the world will revisit the making of the production and reflect on what this work and this project has meant to them. The festival culminates with two brand new music and dance performances created exclusively for the festival.

Bangsokol: A Requiem for Cambodia, is a multi-disciplinary stage production combining music, film, movement, and voice. After touring in Australia, the USA (Sold Out shows in Boston/Dec 2017), and France, Bangsokol premiered in Cambodia in November 2019.

Watch the full performance of the Cambodia premiere —graced by the presence of HRH King Norodom Sihamoni as Head of State and Distinguished Patron of CLA. After the screening, we invite you to join a reflection and exchange between audience members Ada Khun, Seda Douglas, Emily Howe, and Chea Sopheap, all of whom have a deep connection with Cambodia and experienced the Bangsokol production in different cities during its international tour.

The 36th Anniversary Gala is celebrating "virtually" this year!

Even though there is no in-person gathering; no cocktail hour; no mingling; no dancing; & no hugging; we will celebrate together from the comfort of our homes and witness live performances from young people, auctioning of beautiful crafts and creative homemade baskets, and learn about our most recent COVID-19 efforts these past few months. What we have witnessed is the community coming together.

While CMAA worked with our funding partners to provide support to those in need, we also saw the "Humanity" in many community members who came out
to lend a helping hand. They donated face masks, hand sanitizers, air purifiers, and much more during this extraordinary time.

In a year of so much uncertainty, grief, and resistance, we want to take this year to celebrate our community and the work we've done together this year. We will share updates from our work, look forward to a new membership meeting structure and a clearer anti-displacement framework in 2021, and elect in our new Board leadership. Please join us to hear about what's coming up for AARW in 2021, give your input, and be together!

Viet Family Stories, Chuyện Gia Đình 2.0 is an intergenerational multimedia storytelling project that brings together a group of Vietnamese American elder and young artists to co-create a series of monthly bilingual gatherings and dialogues grounded in Boston's Dorchester community.

The project aims to explore and unpack themes of diaspora, resiliency, memories, mental health, and healing practices in Vietnamese families. Please register for our virtual public event in December 2020 and stay tuned! #VietFamStories

Viet Family Stories, Chuyện Gia Đình 2.0 là một dự án kể chuyện đa-phương-tiện đa-thế-hệ có quy tụ những người lớn tuổi và thanh niên Mỹ gốc Việt, họ sẽ hợp tác trong vòng sáu tháng để tạo ra một chuỗi các chương trình và các cuộc đối thoại song ngữ hàng tháng cho cộng đồng Dorchester tại Boston.

On November 19th, the Trump administration proposed a new rule to ban work permits for people on Orders of Supervision (OSUP): those who have been ordered deported but are temporarily released from custody. This includes tens of thousands of Southeast Asian immigrants and refugees who have resettled to the US and rebuilt their lives after being displaced by the war in Southeast Asia.

Join us in protecting our friends, families; and community members by submitting a public comment opposing the proposed work ban on work permits by Monday, December 21st.
