SHARED STORIES

March and April Updates

Regarding the La Chana screening event, as of today, March 13, ArtsEmerson will suspend scheduled public gatherings with the hope of continuing more regular activity by the end of April 2020. Because of this, BAAFF, ArtsEmerson, Boston Latino International Film Festival, and Roxbury International Film Festival have decided to cancel both the March and April Shared Stories screenings.

Slowing the spread of the virus in our community, and our world, is of paramount importance for all of us. We have remained in close communication with national and local officials and public health agencies to remain up to date on the best strategies for
 flattening the curve

We aim to safeguard the health of our audiences, artists, staff, and the region’s public health infrastructure in this fast-moving moment, and therefore we are following guidance from national and local public health agencies, including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Boston Public Health Commission, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

We want to amplify wisdom in the CDC anti-stigma guidelines issued recently regarding coronavirus. Collectively, we must focus on the disease that is causing the problem and avoid casting blame on individuals, cultures, or nationalities.

Please note that the updates for May and June screenings will be shared as they develop.

Tips from AARW
Staff at AARW has been wading through resources and tracking current conditions as it relates to COVD-19 (Coronavirus) and wanted to send this email out to you all about steps we are taking to respond to and care for our members, especially in our day to day programming. These are the resources we are pulling information from:
  1. https://www.flattenthecurve.com/
  2. Preparing for Coronavirus to Strike the US
For AARW:
  • We are encouraging staff and volunteers to work from home if possible and to be attentive to situation as it shifts
  • VietAID is getting help to sanitize the building multiple times a day
  • We are encouraging any in person meetings that are possible to transition to remote/Zoom in the next week. Program meetings (Dot-I and SRP) can decide on a case by case basis if any in person meetings are necessary. All larger AARW meetings (census training, events) will be moved remotely or rescheduled.
  • If you do decide to have an in person meeting - practice caring for each other through these steps
    • stay home if you are sick
    • try to meet somewhere that avoids public transportation for as many people as possible. Try to walk bike or carpool instead of taking bus or train.
    • meet in open space, outdoors or in a building that is responding to COVD-19 rather than indoors, high traffic & crowded areas
    • maintain distance from each other when in person (6 ft). try to minimize contact ex: give "air hugs"
    • wash hands and forearms as soon as you arrive for 20-30 seconds with plenty of soap and water
    • take off your outerwear and place it in a different room and not in a pile, keep your articles of clothing away from each other
    • try to minimize food ordering, bring and eat your own food that doesn't need to be heated up. if you order takeout, make sure that one person sets up and serves the food (avoid "serve yourself" set ups) and definitely avoid reaching into the same bag (chips etc), pour snack items onto your own plate
    • try not to share phones, laptops, writing utensils, with people. wipe down devices with sanitizing wipes if you do need to share devices
  • We are committing to sharing updates and protocols as they emerge
