When you think of the best dobro players on the scene today, many great pickers come to mind. Maybe Phil Leadbetter or Jerry Douglas or Andy Hall are on the list, but it definitely includes Rob Ickes.

Fifteen-time IBMA dobro player of the year Rob Ickes has collaborated with an incredible list of A-list stars in bluegrass, country, and more. He has performed and recorded with Merle Haggard, Alison Krauss, Earl Scruggs, Tony Rice, Dolly Parton, and Willie Nelson among others. As a member of Blue Highway, he helped define the sound of bluegrass as it entered the 21st century. Most recently, he has performed prolifically with the Grammy-nominated guitarist and songwriter Trey Hensley. They will be joined by bassist extraordinaire Mike Bub at our April 27th concert—this is one you won't want to miss!

Above, watch Rob Ickes shred some Angeline the Baker, accompanied by Andy Leftwich on mandolin.

HVBA's Bluegrass Courses start at Vassar LLI!

HVBA is excited to offer classes through Vassar College's Lifelong Learning Institute! This spring, six classes hosted by world-class Hudson Valley bluegrass musicians will teach about the history, the instruments, and the players that make the genre.

Our classes have so far featured Tara Linhardt on mandolin and Keith Edwards on guitar. No class is being held this week due to the holidays, but next week will feature multi-instrumentalist Ambrose Verdibello teaching a class on the history of the fiddle! And for more information on upcoming classes and to sign up, check out Vassar Lifelong Learning Institute here.
