Bluegrass in Arlington - 2018

Saturday, September 29 - 12:30 - 5:30 pm
48 Raymond Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY

New Breaks

Join us for Bluegrass in Arlington - 2018! This bluegrass event is part of a larger street fair sponsored by Vassar College and the Town of Poughkeepsie.

The HVBA has been participating in this annual event since 2011. This year we will begin with an open jam at 12:30 followed by four outstanding bands. Each week we will spotlight one of the participating bands in this newsletter.

New Breaks is a band comprised of some of the Hudson Valley’s most experienced acoustic musicians. They perform a varied mix of classic and contemporary bluegrass with the emphasis on tight vocal harmonies. All are veterans of many local bands and have been honing their skills for many years. Frank, Gary, Rusty and Nina were all previous members of the Mama Tried Bluegrass Band.

Hudson Crossing, Angell Bandd, & Bash Bish Bluegrass Band will also be playing on September 29.

A mondegreen is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase as a result of near-homophony, in a way that gives it a new meaning. Mondegreens are most often created by a person listening to a poem or a song; the listener, being unable to clearly hear a lyric, substitutes words that sound similar and make some kind of sense. American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term in 1954, writing about how as a girl she had misheard the lyric "...and laid him on the green" in a Scottish ballad as "...and Lady Mondegreen".

Eugene Tyler Band

Newest HVBA Member Band

For the past three years, Eugene Tyler Band has been on the road, singing songs about bad backs, judgmental dogs, powerlifting boozehounds, sexual underachievers and altar boys on acid. Drawing from country, bluegrass, folk and indie rock, the band plays an energetic brand of acoustic music rooted in rich, introspective songs. For their 2018 sophomore record, Young Randy, the band went beyond the stripped down sound of their live shows, with arrangements varying from solo acoustic songs to 5-piece alt-country numbers. In support of the new record, Eugene Tyler Band is on pace to play well over 100 shows this year, bringing their take on American acoustic music to new and established audiences around the country.

The HVBA is proud to welcome the Eugene Tyler Band to our long list of Member Bands!
