HVBA CONCERT
Magnolia Street String Band

June 19th @ 3pm
Poughkeepsie Day School
260 Boardman Road, Poughkeepsie NY

Join the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association for a performance by Magnolia Street String Band for our June Concert. This will be our third concert at the Day School and we are excited to be able to bring this band to Poughkeepsie after rainy weather forced a cancellation last summer.

Magnolia Street Band has music grounded in traditional bluegrass with elements of cosmic Americana, country, and old-time as well as original compositions mixed in. The band’s sound features powerful three-part harmonies and compelling instrumentals. Overall, their take on bluegrass feels old but relevant, traditional but personal, and well-crafted but soulful and direct. Their first full-length album, Wrong Side of the Rain, was released in June, 2019.

This  outdoor concert  will move indoors if the weather is uncooperative. Please check our website for an update on whether or not to bring lawn chairs.

Andy Bing: Bluegrass Festivals

Summer is nearly here and that means that bluegrass festival season is upon us. This summer is especially exciting for bluegrass fans, promising (fingers crossed) a full line up of festivals for the first time since 2019. For fans, including bluegrass pickers and singers from the casual to the professional, there is nothing like getting together with friends and fellow musicians for a long weekend of outdoor music, both on the stage and in the campgrounds. In a prior post on jam sessions, I noted that bluegrass festivals are social events as much as musical gatherings: “Likely there are old friends that you see every year at a particular festival. Making music with them can be part of the pleasure you find in their company.”
