Bill Monroe's Musical Influences
New Trivia Question
Bill Monroe wasn’t born with Blue Grass music in his head, ready to go. He had influences. While it’s not often acknowledged, Bill has said some of his influences came from early 78 rpm hillbilly records, and bands he heard and saw on the WLS National Barn Dance in Chicago (notably the Prairie Ramblers, a hot fiddle band).
Dick Bowden wants you to guess at which were Monroe's musical influences. Shouldn't be too hard to do!! Give it a whirl.

Andy Bing Wins the March 25th Contest!!
It shouldn't be a surprise that a dobro player has won the last Trivia Contest. Not only is Andy a great dobro player, but he is a walking encyclopedia of bluegrass history.
Congrats to Andy and thanks to those who jumped into the water and gave the contest a try.
Have you forgotten the question already? Fear not! Here you go.

Ricky Skaggs may be known better to some as a classic country star of the 1980s, but to us, he’s a well seasoned bluegrass bellwether who’s been in the game for more than five decades. Want to listen to David Chernack's culled playlist? Click Here.

Dick Bowden Review:
Bluegrass by Italian Band
The Truffle Valley Boys
You will want to read all of Dick Bowden's CD review, but here is an excerpt:
"Everything about The Truffle Valley Boys puts me in mind of eager and hard-charging local bluegrass band from the 1950s and 60s. The recording is as far from slick as possible. While the instruments are nice and clear, the vocals are right on the edge of overdriving the mike – not “quite” causing distortion, but you know they’re really "bellering."
