Stone Patients with Hyperoxaluria as one of the causes of your stone diseases:
If you have had to use antibiotics more than four times in a year (for any reason) and have kidney stones caused by elevated oxalate, we have exciting news!!
THE ANAEROBE OXALOBACTER FORMIGENES MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED IN YOUR BOWEL BY THE ANTIBIOTICS AND REPLENISHING IT WITH A PROBIOTIC CONTAINING THIS ORGANISM MAY TREAT YOUR HYPEROXALURIA EVEN IF YOU KEEP EATING HIGH OXALATE FOODS!!
You would know that you have this condition from Dr. Boone's evaluation of your 24 hour urine. She was looking for the causes of your stone formation. You would have been, subsequently, asked to eat a low oxalate diet.
At any rate, a probiotic with OXALOBACTER FORMIGENES can metabolize >50%of the oxalate that you eat and it will definitely lower your urine oxalate!!
So, if you have kidney stones and are missing your beets, spinach, sweet potatoes, olives, berries, chocolate and nuts, this might be for you.
And, as always, eating Calcium in food (NOT SUPPLEMENTS) could also lower your urine oxylate. Most oxalate stone formers need 1500mg of Calcium in FOOD per 24 hours.
If you choose to use the probiotic, and reintroduce some oxalate foods into your diet, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT WE RECHECK YOUR 24 HOUR URINE ABOUT 6 weeks after you do it.
We want to make sure that it is working for YOU and that we are not making new stones!!
Stone formers with elevated calcium in your urine:
If you are a chronic kidney stone former and have elevated calcium in your urine, you may be interested in using the Theromega Fish Oil Nutrition Supplement every 12 hours. There has been recent evidence indicating that the use of the 2 specific oils in this product can decrease the amount of calcium in your urine. These oils are EPA (which equals Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid).
If you are one of my patients who has been on Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and are unable to tolerate it for any reason, we could try using the fish oil instead.
Please contact me for more information regarding this matter before changing your drug regimen.
We could need to look at your 24 hour urine to be certain that you would benefit before starting therapy.
