On Wednesday, August 22nd, Emily Gowdy Canady, The Diocese of East Carolina Program Officer for Youth, Campus and Young Adult Ministries, will be visiting St. John’s as a guest speaker at our 6:00 Wednesday evening dinner program. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn and brainstorm ideas for engaging our youth for the upcoming church year, as well as an opportunity to meet Emily. Emily comes with a wealth of experience and ideas for not just the EYC (grades 6-12), but for our younger youth (Children’s Christian Formation) as well.

School Supplies for Foster Children

Thanks to everyone who has donated backpacks for children In Foster Care in Cumberland County--but we're not finished yet!  Please bring backpacks for children of all ages, boys and girls, so that all the students who need a backpack for keeping school supplies and personal items safe have their own sturdy backpack, not a plastic bag from the grocery store.  This has become an important outreach for St. John's, and we will continue to collect backpacks through August 8. You may bring them on Sunday or during office hours throughout the week.  Thank you very much! Questions may be forwarded to Ken Lancaster at 910-624-1164 or kenlancaster10@nc.rr.com or Sybil Sasaki at sybilsasaki@hotmail.com.

Missions of Mercy (MOM) Volunteers needed

The North Carolina Dental Society Foundation is hosting a Missions of Mercy (MOM) free adult dental clinic on August 3 and 4, 2018 at the Crown Arena in Fayetteville. We can provide an 80-chair full dental clinic, including digital x-ray, sterilization, and all instrumentation and supplies to serve anywhere from 300 to 3,000 patients, depending on the number of chairs set up.

We are looking for community volunteers to help us serve the greatest number of patients.  Our clinics are fully staffed by volunteers, and we need help with set-up on Thursday, August 2 and at the clinic for patient registration on both Friday, August 3 and Saturday, August 4.

MOM has provided services to more than 65,600 North Carolinians since 2003. We want to do more. With your help, we can. Here is the link for volunteer registration: http://www.ncdental.org/member-center/getinvolved/ncdsf-missions-of-mercy-(mom).

Greeters Needed

St. John’s Greeters have the fun and easy job of welcoming parishioners and newcomers as they arrive for 10:30 Sunday services. Greeters contribute to the warm and inviting atmosphere that leads attendees into our church home each Sunday. The duty is easy and the rewards are great! Please contact Kim Johnson at kimjoh68015@gmail.com, or see me after church, to sign up for this worthy endeavor that only takes a fraction of your time.

Are You Interested in Becoming an Usher?

We are currently in need of ushers.  Ushers at St. John’s participate in a very rewarding ministry at the church.  In addition to serving at the 10:30 Sunday morning services, ushers are also needed at funerals and other scheduled church services.  Ushers are scheduled on a monthly basis and serve approximately once every 4-6 weeks. Training will be provided.   If you are interested in becoming an usher, contact Walker Haigh at whaigh511@gmail.com.

Online Giving & Directory

St. John’s now has an online directory and the ability to give online through your computer, tablet or mobile device. Please visit the following website for instructions and to signup: http://www.stjohnsnc.org/access/.

If you need help logging in, please call or stop by the church office during normal office hours. The church office is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

New acolytes wanted!

We are looking for young people who wish to be a part of the worship service.  As acolytes, youth learn to cultivate leadership and responsibility. We encourage everyone in 4th through 12th grade to participate, and training will be provided.  Please speak with your child about this very important ministry.
For information, please contact Grant Steffan at a-and-g-steffan@att.net or Heath and Heather Privette at 913-702-6996 or email hwprivette@hotmail.com. You may also call the church office at 483-7405 for information.

Youth Stakeholders (That means everyone): On August 22nd, Emily Gowdy Canady, The Diocese of East Carolina Program Officer for Youth, Campus and Young Adult Ministries, will be visiting St. John’s as a guest speaker at our Wednesday evening dinner program.  This program is not just for our youth, parents of youth and youth leaders, but for everyone, as we are ALL stakeholders in our youth.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn and brainstorm ideas for engaging our youth for the upcoming church year.  Emily comes with a wealth of experience and ideas for not just the EYC (grades 6-12), but for our younger youth (Children’s Christian Formation) as well.  Please note, this is a change from the originally posted August 5th meeting.  Please contact Lenora Chandler, lchandler@nc.rr.com 910-482-0253 or Heath Privette, hprivette@hotmail.com  for more information.  A sign-up sheet for dinner will be posted on the bulletin board in front of Hauser Hall and online, as usual.

Volunteers Needed: Our EYC morning Christian Formation program will resume September 9th at 9:15 a.m. upstairs in Room 5 (the EYC classroom).  Please join our wonderful team of volunteers that facilitate the EYC Sunday morning Christian Formation program.  The lessons are prepared and provided.  Volunteers serve as a team of two, one Sunday each month (less if we have enough volunteers).  Volunteers must take the Safe Church training provided online to participate.  This quick training is worthwhile and informative.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lenora Chandler, lchandler@nc.rr.com or Joel Christian, joelachristian@me.com.
